Unreal Engine - Image 1Volunteers of David Perry's Project: Top Secret will have something to expect this Christmas since they have been such very good boys and girls. And what is this great big present? Volunteers will be given all the tools necessary to develop the Top Secret racing MMORPG.

"This is like Christmas for the mod community," said Perry. Like Christmas it is, since the brave souls who volunteered working on the game will be able to choose and use any game engine of their choice, be it the Unreal Engine, Crysis, or id.

IGN's Modcenter is in charge of giving out various development tools to the participants of Project: Top Secret, while Acclaim will pay for the usage of every budding game developer's gaming engine of choice.

Since Project: Top Secret will eventually award the person who made the most contributions into the development of the game, the free usage of tools is nothing short of entirely helpful, and awesome.

If you're interested in joining the community effort of making the next best MMORPG, then there's no more reason to hold back: the gaming development tools are already taken care of.

Six new screenshots from Auran Games' upcoming MMORPG title Fury have come our way via MMORPG.com. These screenshots show of more of the game's beautiful graphics, provided by the Unreal Engine 3. Check 'em out below.

Australian video game developer Auran has touted Fury as "the best PvP experience ever". One of the cool things that the game brings to the PvP arena is its unique spell and ability activation feature. The words "cooldown time" aren't found in the Fury vocabulary, and spell and abilities within the game activate instantly. Do we hear somebody saying "spell spam"?

Fury is currently in closed beta and is slated for an early October release.

Fury - Image 1Codemasters Online has announced a new distribution deal with Australian game developer Auran that will bring Fury to the European market. The game is currently slated to hit in October.

Fury, an Unreal Engine 3-powered free-to-play MMORPG, promises to give players "the ultimate player vs player combat experience unlike any other action shooter or MMORPG in the market." This PvP-centric game also has the distinction of having most of its spells and abilities activate instantly. Cooldown is also nonexistent.

"Fury has been designed from the ground up to be the best PvP experience ever," said Auran CEO Tony Hilliam. "Players are rewarded for their skill in battle, not time played and with our unique Incarnation System, players are not shackled by traditional RPG class restrictions. We're confident Fury is set to revolutionize online competitive gaming."

As Auran and Gamecock Media Group's Fury nears its fourth quarter release schedule, the beta trials are being set up for the PvP MMO title rendered by Unreal Engine 3. Auran's Fury site has opened up the beta to interested PvPers, although they have indicated a limited number of slots available for the trials.

Players will have the option of testing out various modes and facets of the game, including clans, the various maps, and the modes of play to climb the Beta Ladders. The Brisbane-based developer assures that there will be no grinding, no crafting, and certainly no enemy AI in the game.

So it's no suprise that Auran also released another gameplay trailer, entitled "Waste Enemies". True to what the trailer says, there's no need to waste time, just your enemies. And if the trailer was enough to get your fingers itchy, head off to the beta signup page provided in the Read link below.

GO3 Electronic Entertainment Expo 2007 - Image 1Murdoch University-hosted GO3 Electronic Entertainment Exposition and Conference will be held at the Perth Convention Center, Australia. Starting March 30, the three-day affair will be an attempt to touch the Asian and European communities with the state of the art style and leisurely grace brought about by the Western E3.

Way up high the updates list for the GO3 Expo is that Microsoft's Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii, and Sony's PlayStation 3 are a go-for-show at the exposition, to be headed by Gametraders.

So for sure, alongside the granddaddy PCs that will probably make an appearance at the expo, the next-gen consoles will be around to steal away others for hands-on demonstrations.

Plus, over US$ 6,000-worth of prizes will be given away at the event, along with massive discount vouchers for attendees, even the non-early birds.

Also hot-listed is the news that Fury, an ambitious PvP MMORPG that made a stirring at the 2007 Game Developers Conference, will also be making a show at the Euro-Australasian E3 with some hands-on experience lead by associate producer Andrew Edelsten. The game itself blew away audiences in last year's E3 in Los Angeles.

Also renowned for its "Holy Pixelshaded Lightmapped Christ!" graphics on Unreal Engine 3, Fury also whisked away some sites' "Most Surprising Game at E3" awards, this free (yes free) game will allow players to fight head on against other players within a realm, and form an army of allies against other realms. If the world was looking for a World of Warcraft-killer, here's one such candidate to come out at the fourth quarter of 2007. Fury will be shafted shipped to the U.S. through Gamecock.

Spreading throughout the communities of World of Warcraft and The Sims is the topic about the game footage movies addressing social concerns surrounding the exploitation of third-world producers. While these ads were supposed to promote the Fair Trade Mark of the Fair Trade Foundation, they've been a hot topic of debate with flames licking both sides of the battlefield.

What was ultimately surprising is the fact that both communities actually have a lot of knowledge of the issues addressed by the Fair Trade videos. In fact, Hugh Hancock, the director of the videos, was happy to comment on the repercussions brought about by the advertisements:

The reaction from the Internet has been fascinating! Whilst some people might think of hard-core gamers as apathetic or apolitical, we're seeing a lot of informed, intelligent and passionate advocacy and enthusiasm on both sides of the fence. If anything, I'd say that the men and women who are playing World of Warcraft and The Sims 2 seem to be more interested in talking about these issues than most!

The video advertisements placed by Fair Trade Fortnight were created using Machinima, a tool used by most creative folk to make movies in game engines.

The Unreal engine is well-known for incorporating Machinima to produce in-game movie sequences. The Strange Company, in cooperation with Hand Up Media, will be creating more sets of ethical Machinima movies which will premiere in the next year. Here, check out the Sims version of the advertisements.

Hi-Rez Studios Logo - Image 1Hi-Rez Studios which was established in 2005, has announced its first offering, something it has dubbed a "Spy-Fi Action MMORPG" that uses the Unreal Engine 3. Global Agenda is a mission based MMORPG where one is thrown in a world of espionage and tactical covert operations. You will fight in a war which isn't dominated by armies, but with elite teams of highly trained and well-equipped special agents, where technology is a race, knowledge is power, and everyone has an agenda.

This game has been in development for two years by veterans of the industry, so we should expect the final product to be polished. The list of features is pretty long, and some of them will be hard to actually pull off. If they can do it though, we may well be looking at the next dominant MMORPG.

Features:
  • Has fast-paced ranged and close combat
  • RPG-style character progression
  • Solo or cooperative team missions
  • Competitive play on a massive scale between player-created agencies
  • Create, extensively customize, and develop an agent character that is unique within the world. Protect your secret identity through covert activity while increasing your skills and influence
  • Join a player-created agency, compete in a technology race for advanced weaponry, and advance your own agenda
  • Engage in solo, co-op, and team objective-based missions against non-player and other player-created agencies
  • Experience a dynamic world of espionage and intrigue, where in-game events and locations are influenced by the actions of players and agencies
If you happen to be in San Francisco a week from now where the GDC will be held, be sure to check out Hi-Rez Studios' booth showing a demo of its product.

Geomeric's Enlighten engine - Image 1Remember Epic Games' Integrated Partners Program (IPP)? It's actually a formal business relationship where other companies integrate their own engines to Unreal Engine to produce cross-platform technologies. Early signatories include SpeedTreeRT, Kynogon and Digimask, and Fonix.

Anyway, Epic was able to enlist another company that will bring light and joy to UE 3 in more ways than one. UK-based Geomerics is set to incorporate its engine Enlighten with that of Epic's.

According to the technology development maker, Enlighten will alter the way lighting is handled in games by allowing more dynamic lighting effects to be computed during run time.

Epic Games VP Mark Rein is quite excited as he mentioned, "It is great to have Geomerics on board for the Integrated Partners Program. We look forward to seeing how their customers take advantage of the integration between their lighting technology and Unreal Engine 3."

Members of IPP receive complete source code access as well as full technical support from Epic Games.

TCoS - Image 1

When it comes to MMO title The Chronicles of Spellborn, expectations are all nothing short of being tremendous. You've seen the previous game trailers and music videos released by developer Spellborn NV, and judging from those, we can tell that TCoS must be one well-created game.

Some remarkable features of this game include a great background story, a lot of things to do, and add to that the use of Unreal Engine 3, and it looks like that TCoS has everything working for its cause. The only remaining question now is that, "Will the game deliver?" The developers promised a Q1 of 2007 released before and we guess we'll all see by then.

In the meantime, just take a look at these new batch of screenshots and decide if you like the game or not. We betting that you do.

Here it comes... - Image 1

After a rather long period of lull, the Korean game publisher Webzen is back with new updates on their upcoming MMORPG, Huxley. Bound to be released some time this year, this MMO title makes use of the Unreal Engine 3, and is expected to bowl over both PC and XBox 360 gamers with its detailed graphics and physics.

A game that can be more accurately refer ed to as an MMOFPS, the game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are still reeling from the effects of massive natural disasters. As if that wasn't enough, humans were divided into two opposing races: the Alternatives who have undergone major mutations after being exposed to powerful energy sources known as Lunarites, and the Sapiens who were treated as slaves once the Alternatives discovered that they are physically stronger than the Sapiens.

Scheduled to be released some time this year, we can't wait to see what Webzen has managed to make with the Unreal Engine.
