Pankration of the beasts of Vana'Diel - Image 1Final Fantasy XI fans better get ready for a slobber-knocker!

Folks who've managed to pick up the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion will be glad to know that there's a new sport they can engage in whenever they visit Al Zahbi.

It's called Pokemon Pankration, and it involves collecting your own special monsters for battle against other monster tamers from around the world.

According to PlayOnline, the new system will basically allow you to pick up new items that will allow you to capture and raise your own monsters for battle against other enemies. As with most of the new systems that pop up in the game though, you'll need to use a new currency, called Jettons, to make the most out of the Pankration experience.

Of course, the real draw here is in picking up your own soultrapper and using it to capture a monster of your very own for battle. Will you use a Mandragora, or a Marlboro? Will you be able to tame the greatest of beasts using the soul trapping system?

That's up to you. For the full details on Pankration, feel free to visit the read link for more information.

World of Warcraft - Image 1What are they playing over at Sweden? Aren't you curious? This bit of info just might save your life one day, y'know. The region's data trade firm, Dataspelsbranschen (now try saying that as fast as you can, ten times consecutively), has just released the top sales charts of video games for Sweden.

The Multiplatform chart is dominated by the MMORPG mogul that is The World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade from Blizzard. This is followed by Pokémon Diamond on the Nintendo DS. MotorStorm and R:FoM have also landed a place in the multiplatform chart, and unsurprisingly, both titles get bragging rights in the PS3 chart.

The 360 chart has Guitar Hero II fronting the musical act - and smack dab in the middle is Gears of War on fifth place. The Wii has Leon Kennedy and Ashley Graham running up to first place with Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, while Twilight Princess is galloping up to the Top 2 spot.

On the handheld side, the DS chart has both Pokemon (Diamond and Pearl) titles on top, while the PSP chart has Pro Evolution Soccer 6 kicking into the goal - Konami's sports title is enjoying the kingly spot on top.

 Multiformat

  1. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (PC)
  2. Pokémon Diamond (DS)
  3. World of Warcraft (PC)
  4. Counter-Strike 1: Anthology (PC)
  5. Guitar Hero 2 Rock the 80´s (PS2)
  6. The Sims 2 H&M Fashion (PC)
  7. Pokémon Pearl (DS)
  8. Motorstorm (PS3)
  9. Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3)
  10. Singstar 90's (PS2)
Check out the Full Article link below for each individual chart per platform!

ALA says librarians should play more video games - Image 1The American Library Association recently held their annual meeting in Washington and the focus of the gathering was how to help students who have learned many of their information gathering and analysis skills from video games apply that knowledge in the library.

The suggestions from the experts were striking: our friendly librarians should play more video games. However, solving the widening gap is not as easy as that as pointed out by Online Computer Library Center VP George M. Needham.

He pointed out that the students of today are "Digital Natives" while the librarians are simply "Digital Immigrants." And much like the theory behind migration, the immigrants should be the one to adopt and not the other way around.

Likewise, author of book "Digital Game-Based Learning" Marc Prensky explained:

In geography - which is all but ignored these days - there is no reason that a generation that can memorize over 100 Pokemon characters with all their characteristics, history, and evolution can't learn the names, populations, capitals and relationships of all the 101 nations in the world. It just depends on how it is presented.

Needham mentioned as well that he is not suggesting that college libraries "tear up the stacks to put in arcades," but that they rethink many assumptions and teaching methods. He added:

The librarian as information priest is as dead as Elvis. The whole gestalt of the academic library has been set up like a church with various parts of a reading room acting like the stations of the cross, all leading up to the altar of the reference desk, where you make supplication and if you are found worthy, you will be helped.

Eudemons Online from TQ Digital Entertainment - Image 1Eudemons Online from TQ Digital Entertainment - Image 2

TQ Digital Entertainment wishes to inform its player base that the anniversary events for MMO video game Eudemon Online is currently on-going. A server maintenance was scheduled last Monday and the servers were down. There might have been some confusion if the anniversary will push through after that.

Well, you better log in now because the festivities won't be waiting for you. The remaining events include:
  • Clothes Swap: Holly (Market 281,507) has all kinds of casual clothes for swapping. The swapping price=The price of the new clothes-(the price of the old clothes*70%). If the price of the new clothes is lower than the price of the old clothes*70%, no swapping price will be charged.
  • 2nd Eudemon Carnival: all level 30+ players can find the priestess (Cronus 187.417) to send the best wishes, which will turn into magic power that can accelerate the growth of the 28 eudemons around the priestess. Once the first hatched egg has reached the final form, all players in this server can enjoy one day's double exp after the next server maintenance.
  • Maze Event: To ensure all players can get the best benefits from the maze event, we have decided to extend this event to May 29, 2007 at 23:29PM PDT (GMT-7). In addition, the mazes will be much easier for you to explore.
The English version of Eudemons Online was released just this month . The game itself takes place in the fictional world of Yartland and uses a medieval Chinese theme. Eudemons are pets that can be trained, taught, and evolved into higher forms by your in-game character much like the Pokemon concept.

The Read link should take you to the game's official site where you can know more about this year's festivities.

rappelz1

The Rappelz Closed Beta Test has now started. The first 2000 people who signed up at the main site will be able to enter at 11 AM USA PDT (GMT-7), while the rest get a chance to do so at 5 PM USA PDT (GMT-7). Those who signed up at mmosite.com will be able to enter the game at 8 PM USA PDT (GMT-7).

Rappelz is a free MMORPG published by Gala-Net, the distributors of Flyff and Space Cowboy Online. It is based in a fantasy world dominated by three races of separate alignments: the Deca, guardians of light, the Asura, servants of the dark, and the Gaia, a neutral human race. Basically, each race has a Warrior class, Mage class, and Summoner class.

Unlike its predecessors, Rappelz concentrates on a PvP (player vs. player) system that emphasizes the use of creatures (pets) who fight for their master. In this way, Rappelz does resemble a lot like Pokemon, and Lineage II.

Rappelz is actually the third Free to Play MMORPG from Gala-Net. Like the two games from Gala-Net, Flyff and Space Cowboy Online, it's a favorite on Korea’s Top Online game rankings for many weeks.

Developed by nFlavor Corp., Rappelz is set to continue the trend of successful Free to Play games from Korea to North and South America, Europe, Australia, and all of Asia, except Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong.
