WoW logo - Image 1In case you're looking for an easier way to manage your World of Warcraft account, we've got some good news. Blizzard has just announced in the WoW official site that they will now be accepting subscription payments via the Paypal online payment system.

This news is applicable to both old and new WoW players. Guys interested in taking advantage of this new arrangement are advised to drop by the Account Management page, where they can select Paypal as their automatic payment method.

With The Wrath of the Lich King now the next big thing in WoW, we're hoping this new transaction system will make Blizzard's MMORPG all the more accessible and hassle-free.

Second Life - Image 1Kevin Alderman, the creator of Second Life's highly popular SexGen program sued the virtual character for breaking his program's copy protection and selling unauthorized copies of the SexGen Platinum, a US$ 45 program that equips Second Life avatars with genitalia and lets them perform various sexual acts.

The civil lawsuit was filed in Tampa, Florida as a fitting response to Volkov Catteneo, when the latter said, "What are you going to do? Sue me?" when he was finally confronted about the copyright infringement issue. Alderman of Eros LLC gave his own analysis of Catteneo's behavior.

I guess the mentality is that because you're an avatar ... that you are untouchable. The purpose of this suit is not only to protect our income and our product, but also to show, yes, you can be prosecuted and brought to justice.

Catteneo has claimed that he provided fake personal information upon joining Linden Lab's Second Life. However, Alderman's lawyer Francis X. Taney said that they already know Catteneo's real identity and are verifying it through PayPal account records. "There is a whole lot less anonymity online than people think," Electronic Frontier Foundation's Senior Staff Attorney Fred von Lohmann said. He also mentioned that 20,000 people getting sued for downloading music is proof enough that people are not as anonymous as they think they are over the Internet.

Taney has admitted that the involvement of virtual sex made the lawsuit garner a lot of attention, but he explains that Alderman's case holds legal ground, saying that as a software, the SexGen is copyrightable and is grounds for a lawsuit. He also added that, "There is some sizzle. People like to say it's really far out there, but at the end of the day I equate it to basic intellectual property principles."

WoW yesterday's massive ban - Image 1

Blizzard performed a massive account ban yesterday for behemoth MMO video game World of Warcraft. According to our sources, Blizzard targeted gold farmers but reports claim that regular users were also affected by the purge.

Website NotAddicted.com managed to get hold of one of the gold farmers who got banned yesterday. The farmer claims that he's from Colorado, strengthening previous speculations that gold diggers also abound in first world countries and not only in China and other parts of Asia.

According to the botter, the purge caused him around 100 accounts of characters with levels ranging from 40 to 70. One account, the botter calculated, gives a revenue of US$ 5,000, and that's around US$ 50,000 lost in just one day. The botter lamented that the business isn't quite profitable anymore,

A lot of competition. Add in when you try to make money, takes 3 weeks to lvl an account to 70 and work, it makes an ok amount of gold then you lose the account, paypal reversals, list goes on and on. We don't really get banned for botting very often. I keep it minimal and out of the way of normal traffic where players dont come by very often.

Furthermore, the gold farmer from Colorado shared that aside from profits lost in massive bans, his company needs at least US$ 13,000 just to stay in business. Because of yesterday's incident, he is currently considering to layoff some of his workers. A regular employee earns US$ 10.50 a day plus an hour minimum.

Child's Play

Amidst the bad PR we gamers usually get, Child's Play trudges on to get the world to think otherwise. This year, it has raised around US$ 963,000 for sick children in hospitals around the world.

Child's Play is a Seattle-based charitable organization founded in 2003 by gamers Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, aka Gabe and Tycho of Penny Arcade. The organization donates games, DVDs, books, and other toys to sick kids around the globe, including hospitals in Canada, Britain, Egypt, and Australia. Gamers, or people who simply wish to help, can see the wish lists at Amazon.com or donate cash through PayPal.

This helps a lot of sick kids go through uncomfortable treatments and gives them some sort of relief that they would be able to play while in therapy. And some people think gamers are mindless zombies with cash to burn. Think about it, hitting the one million mark would be a great milestone for all of us.

Cabal

The MMORPG Cabal has already gained a huge following in its Asian hometown and as of now, it's still trying to find the same success in Europe. In that journey towards sweet success, certain problems may arise and at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how much obstacles you encounter, it's on how you handled them.

That's why we understand when Cabal's European publisher, Game-Master announced that the game's payments system would be temporarily closed. Why in the world would they cut off money from the game? To earn more moolahs of course. The payment system would be temporarily closed to add a new payment provider and allow direct payments from Paypal.

It would be closed today from 8 a.m. GMT until 11 a.m. GMT. They didn't give a concrete time as to when the new payment system would be launched, but they did promise that they will inform their gamers when the work has been completed.
