cartoon-y goodness

UPDATE - 1 by Chris C

Original Article -

There's a special fuzzy place for cartoon-like characters in the hearts of MMO addicts. There's Flyff, Rose Online, and Ragnarok. Well here's something straight from the pages of a comic book - Scions of Fate.

Scions of Fate (Yulgang) from mGame USA and Netgame is a multi-awarded Korean MMORPG which features martial arts. There are two factions in the game, The Order and Chaos. Much like the Realm vs Realm of DAoC, Scions of Fate has a system called Authority Clash where each faction battles each other for money and honor.

There are five basic characters to choose from: Swordsman, Bladesman, Spearman, Bowman, and Healer. Character progression is marked by four job promotions. Also, character jobs are set depending on what faction the player chooses.

Scions of Fate is scheduled for release on January 7 and they are currently on the lookout for beta testers. The slots are limited though, and interested parties would be able to join the closed beta by obtaining a Digital Key.

Here's the Beta Test schedule:

First Closed Beta: January 15 - 19
Testing Time: 2pm to 9pm US Pacific Time (-8:00GMT)
Test Objective: Bug and Stability Test

Second Closed Beta: January 22 - 26
Testing Time: 24 hours
Testing Objective: Ranking and PvP Testing, Premium Item Test, and gift cash distribution Test.

Third Closed Beta: January 29 - February 2
Testing Time: 24 hours
Test Objective: General overall test of the game; bugs, translation, stability, etc.

Hero OnlineNo, not again. Not another third party site issue. We just reported today that Square Enix needed to create an FBI-esque group to investigate on the irregularities on FF XI Online. We just had that earlier and yet here we are again. This time, it's for mGame MMO, Hero Online.

Unlike the FF case, Hero's is somewhat on its infant stage. And instead of players taking advantage of the system through third party sites, it's the latter that are doing the abuse. Apparently, many players have been accessing websites that claim to have bots, hacks, exploits, gold, guides and others. As a result, these players got disconnected from the game momentarily and found their inventories empty the moment they logged back.

According to mGame's intial reports, these are actually key logger/phish sites that steal players login/pass. The company added that "restoring player's accounts after they have been hit like this takes quite a bit of time and investigation." It in this light that patience is being asked from players. Something the company is running out of, as a massive influx of complaints reached their desk.

In a rather irate tone, mGame's reply continues, "we are in the process of limiting compensation for inquiries of this nature. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!" Also, to further avoid such things in the future, mGame plans to release several GM-made guides as well as in-game systems to help players with information about Hero Online.

Happy HalloweenWe haven't posted much about The Legend of Ares for quite some time now. However, since lots of MMOs have their own gimmicks for this Halloween season, some of you Ares players might be interested to know that there will be some tricking and treating going on in your realm during the next couple of days.

The Halloween event will start today, October 25, right after server maintenance, and end on November 15 (right before the next server maintenance). As with any other trick-or-treating activity here in the "real world", this virtual sweeties-gathering spree will allow you to collect candies from baddies as they drop them.

How does it go? Well, the long and short of it is that, when you defeat enemies, they will drop Pumpkin Seeds. Gather enough of these and you'd be able to "purchase" a Trick or Treat Basket and Costumes. Once you have these, you can collect candies from the various monsters and creatures around you.

Of course, with this Halloween Patch, the New Invention event has already ended, and orichalcon stones won't be dropped anymore. There's also going to be some changes to the inventory list, including two new spots for equipment.

Yulgang Online, an MMORPG by Mgame, has several versions including Japanese and Korean. Currently, there are little details about the game but one player commented that the game is very popular in Korea, making it in the Top 10 online games. It has features like quests, upgrading weapons and cloth, skills, party, characters, ranking at level 35 to Sapa (RED) or Junpa (BLUE), and two diverse clans. In this game you can basically have a huge war, but most people in Korea choose Sapa(RED). The cutscenes are simple but pretty, and seems to have a compelling and entertaining storyline.

Mgame stated that Yulgang Online will have its closed beta sometime at the end of September. They also said that they will be changing the name, so we guess we have to be on the lookout for future announcements and developments about the game. We will keep you updated on more details about Yulgang Online. In the meantime, let these screenshots give you an idea on how the game works.
