The winners have been selected for this year's Into the Pixel showcase from the E for All Expo. Sixteen video game inspired art have been selected and are now being shown in Los Angeles. The art, like video games, doesn't only focus on the dark and the sombre but also on the fanciful and the strange. This year's winners of Into the Pixel include art from the barren landscapes of Lair to the colorful playfulness of Viva Piñata. The winning pieces span games from a varied set of platforms and genres. MMORPGs are also represented with a work inspired by EVE Online. There's even one inspired by Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii, DS). Check out more images behind the Full Article link below and see if you can name the game, or if one of your favorites managed to make it. |

Soundtracks designed for video games have evolved a lot since the first synthesized beep was created years ago. Indeed, music in the interactive gaming industry has gone a long way. Now you can hear entire musical scores dedicated for a single game.EMI Classics has pushed this concept further as they, Video Games Live and IMG Artist, are planning to release an album filled with some of the best known and most popular video game music of all time. Entitled Video Games Live: Greatest Hits - Volume One includes medleys from various well-known games such as Zelda, Mario, Halo, Warcraft, Sonic, Tron, Myst, Civilization IV and Final Fantasy. The album was compiled by Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall, reknowned video game composers and Video Games Live co-creators. Included as well are the Slovak National Orchestra and the Crouch End Chorus and the "Video Game Pianist," Martin Leung. The album will be released on October 19, coinciding with this year's Video Games Live event on the same day at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and on October 22 at London's Royal Festival Hall, performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra. |

Championship Gaming Series

It was recently announced that World of Warcraft will be featured in the Championship Gaming Series (CGS) World Championship. Every World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade player on the European and North American servers have a chance to be drafted for the upcoming season. Blizzard Entertainment's Community Manager Vaneck posted a message on the WoW Europe forums regarding this very topic and the details on how to be a part of it. The system is quite simple really with a two on two ladder for the eliminations from June 19 to July 3, with the top five teams in each division heading up the qualifiers. This phase along with the drafting is rather complicated so here's exactly how Vaneck described it.

Team Pandemic is sending their World of Warcraft Arena team, Power Trip to the World Series of Video Games (WSVG) going to be held in China. The tournament is set to start during China's Golden Week - May 1 to 3 at Wuhan City.More than US$ 60,000 worth of prizes is at stake at the WSVG. During that time, we'll also be seeing the launch of Blizzard's offline competitive template - meaning, we're about to see the World of Warcraft on LAN. Okay, okay, so maybe the World of Warcraft Arena Tournament did have its share of downsides. Even as the top 14 teams are now fighting to keep their positions, few contenders will probably make it to Regionals with Blizzard's shuffling of the Arena Tournament rules.
Take for example, the membership base. Prior to the Arena season, aspiring contestants have already planned out their Arena teams. It seems, however, that despite the Arena Tournament being a "worldwide event," players hailing from certain states and territories are admittedly not eligible to compete in the tournament. Well, there goes a big chunk of competition right out the back door. Given that the qualifications round started back in February 16 and will end on April 15, there is very little time for competitors to reform their teams to an eligible line up. Team members are required to enter separately in order to participate in the qualification Ladders round. Click on Full Article to read on more of the Arena qualifiers' petition to reconsider the additional rules. |

Murdoch University-hosted GO3 Electronic Entertainment Exposition and Conference will be held at the Perth Convention Center, Australia. Starting March 30, the three-day affair will be an attempt to touch the Asian and European communities with the state of the art style and leisurely grace brought about by the Western E3.Way up high the updates list for the GO3 Expo is that Microsoft's Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii, and Sony's PlayStation 3 are a go-for-show at the exposition, to be headed by Gametraders. So for sure, alongside the granddaddy PCs that will probably make an appearance at the expo, the next-gen consoles will be around to steal away others for hands-on demonstrations. Plus, over US$ 6,000-worth of prizes will be given away at the event, along with massive discount vouchers for attendees, even the non-early birds. Also hot-listed is the news that Fury, an ambitious PvP MMORPG that made a stirring at the 2007 Game Developers Conference, will also be making a show at the Euro-Australasian E3 with some hands-on experience lead by associate producer Andrew Edelsten. The game itself blew away audiences in last year's E3 in Los Angeles. Also renowned for its "Holy Pixelshaded Lightmapped Christ!" graphics on Unreal Engine 3, Fury also whisked away some sites' "Most Surprising Game at E3" awards, this free (yes free) game will allow players to fight head on against other players within a realm, and form an army of allies against other realms. If the world was looking for a World of Warcraft-killer, here's one such candidate to come out at the fourth quarter of 2007. Fury will be shafted shipped to the U.S. through Gamecock. |
