A whole lot of DS games once again, we tell you, though there's a few gems or two in the Nintendo handheld rough on Tuesday. There's a music rhythm game for almost every console out there, plus a couple new additions to the portfolio of PC games. Somehow we're also seeing another relaunching of Gears of War for the Xbox 360 the "Refresh" edition. We don't know why it's re-listed, but it is. The full list follows at the full story.

Interplay still pushing through with Fallout MMO - Image 1Gamernode reports that Interplay, who rolled out a little game called Fallout back in 1997, is still working on a massively multiplayer online title based on the Fallout universe.

Interplay was thought to have gone under in 2004 but resurfaced a year later. Much of the company's financial troubles were alleviated by Bethesda Softworks' purchase of the Fallout franchise in April. While Bethesda is currently the sole owner of the IP, Interplay has remained as a licensee, hence their continued pursuit of the Fallout MMO.

According to Herve Caen, Interplay's CEO and Chairman, the company is now "focused on securing funding for development of [an MMOG] based on the popular Fallout franchise. Along with our strategy of leveraging our existing portfolio of intellectual gaming properties, Fallout Online will play a key role in the future of Interplay."

Before Fallout Online becomes a reality, however, Interplay still needs at least US$ 30 million to fund the game's development. The company still a little over five years left to come out with the MMO, so here's hoping that it pushes through.

Yeah, a bomb just blew up in Bethesda and Interplay. Head for cover. - Image 1Gamasutra reports on a piece of business news with two gaming fallouts - er, implications. Bethesda Softworks has recently bought the Fallout license from Interplay Studios (and not just the rights to dev Fallout 3, but the whole enchilada) for US$ 5.75 million, according to papers filed before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), found by Fallout fansite No Mutants Allowed.

Here's the fallout. Interplay used to own the IP and Bethesda simply licensing the IP for the Fallout 3 installment. Now as Bethesda owns the IP, not only can it securely move forward with the creation of Fallout content without backchecking with the owners (since they are the new owners), but it reaps the intellectual property's income...

... especially from Interplay, now the licensee for its old IP. The same documents also reveal a contractual obligation by Interplay to launch its Fallout massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) within six years from the Effective Date of the agreement between them and Bethesda, with full-scale development occurring within the first twenty-four months... or else Interplay forfeits its license rights. It does give a potential window to when we'll see that Fallout MMOG.

And with the money from the Bethesda enchilada purchase, they may have some seed to start the project. Hey, at least Bethesda's not doing an MMO, like they said.

Oblivion Multiplayer

Although Xbox 360 fans have hankered for a little multi player action in the marvellous Oblivion RPG, despite its huge single player experience, they’ve been sadly let down on this front. Bethesda Softworks, makers of the award winning title explain that the reasoning behind this lack of multi player is simple, they state that "Rather than split our focus between two different types of gameplay, we'd rather focus on one and make it the best single-player experience possible.” Sounds like a fairly smart move, despite it leaving fanboys / fangirls wishing for more.

This is where the modding community comes into things. If you’re playing Oblivion on the PC, as opposed to the Xbox 360, you’ll be thrilled to know that ‘The Ferret’ has done just that. Ferret has released an alpha version that allows two players to check out the world of Cyrodiil together, with even more still in the planning stages. Ferret is working on the next release that will hopefully support up to eight players with various game modes, such as old favourites deathmatch and capture the flag.
