The crystal war erupts with Square Enix's Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess. As the fourth expansion of this popular MMORPG, it introduces a lot of new content to the game that will make a lot of fans happy.

Updates have been very few as of late, considering the only confirmed new character class is the Dancer. However, if you'll watch the trailer from start to end, you might be surprised at some of the things you'll be seeing. Aside from showcasing the Dancer's move-set, you'll be treated by the appearance of various races including the Quadav, Orc, and Yagudo. Finally, the video hints at the return of a certain individual that old time players might recognize.

If you want to get this expansion, shipping starts November 20 this year. We're not going to be keeping you any longer, here is the FFXI: Wings of the Goddess trailer posted by koeta on YouTube, enjoy!

We picked up an interesting bug report over on Blizzard's Public Test Realm forums. Youcantseeme of Draenor reports that there's a bug plaguing the Mac video recording function currently being tested on the PTR.

According to Youcantseeme, the glitch causes the movie to freeze, though the sound will keep on going as if nothing happened. Eventually, the video returns to normal, with the frozen portion of the movie getting skipped.

Blizzard poster Tigerclaw is on the case, however, responding to Youcantseeme's report. He writes, "there were some bugs with the time stamping of the frames, I'll check and see if the appropriate fixes made it into the build currently on PTR (7195)."

It's good to know he's looking into the matter. Hopefully the issue will be resolved in the next PTR build. In the meantime though, PTR players would best be warned with an actual video of the glitch in action, which you can see below. The freezing actually occurs halfway through the video, though we're having trouble scrolling to the exact point. Chances are, the glitch affecting the video is also messing with how YouTube reads the vid, so you'll just have to watch it from start to finish to see the freeze.

Slipping back to our business suits, we've gotten word that U.S. market research firm Parks Associates has discovered that online gaming still outweighs video streaming or social networking over the Internet. The report entitled "Casual Gaming Market Update" claimed that at least 34% of adult Internet users play online games on a weekly basis. Games they play include casual games, confirming the rise in popularity of the casual gaming sector.

Enter your TITLE here...Parks Associates: Gaming is top online entertainment - Image 1

In contrast, 29% of those surveyed watch short online videos, and a smaller 19% visit social networking sites at least once a week. Additionally, online gaming is also experiencing a major surge in the North American region. Parks Associates observed a 79% year-on-year rise in online gamers, compared to the 46% climb of social networking users.

Still, video streaming users are ascending at a steep 123%, and the online gaming sector would do well to challenge that rate in the following years. The online gaming sector is becoming a ripe source of income, and Parks Associates still recommends the tried-and-tested Western business models for the region.

In the Eastern front, the online gaming sector is becoming a blossoming playground for the Asian gaming industry, as Taiwan, Korea, and China have experienced phenomenally market booms in the previous year. Market predictions are also off-the-roof for the Far East, and it may have already grown leaps and bounds in the first half of 2007.

Because people WoW and click Flash more than they Facebook or Youtube, we'll be monitoring for more developments as they come clicking by.

A lot of Mac-based World of Warcraft players cheered when it was announced that they'd be getting in-game video recording. It's up and working on the Public Test Realm, but is it any good?

WoW player Sensai posted a recording that was done using the Mac Movie Capture feature of the PTR on YouTube and it looks pretty sweet. While it was a bit too zoomed out for my own taste, the capture looks pretty smooth and well-rendered with none of the reported problems cropping up.

Anyway, you're probably wondering what the video looks like, so we won't keep you longer. Here it is, enjoy! As always, if you encounter any bugs, be sure to post it in the PTR bugs sticky on the WoW forums.

Alan Joyce of EverythingDigital.org uploaded a video clip over at YouTube showing Blizzard's World of Warcraft running on Apple's iPhone. He was able to do it with the help of Telekinesis, a third-party streaming program that allows users to remotely access their Macs through a collection of mini web applications on the phone.

Joyce noted that the experience wasn't that smooth given WoW's textures, graphics, and sound settings among others. Despite that, Alan Joyce mentioned that he could control several actions in the MMO video game through the iPhone interface like receiving and responding to in-game chat messages.

Anyone seeing a future deal between Blizzard and Apple? Possibly a WoW client for the iPhone? We guess we'll have to wait and see.

Napster, Torrent sites, and YouTube were all mired down in legal suits for copyright real-life property being freely shared through their P2P services.  Now here's something new: Kevin Alderman, infamous internet Adult Entertainment businessman, is suing for copyright infringement on his virtual property.

Alderman owns the internet company Eros LLC, which specializes in Adult products, 90% of which are for the online virtual world, Second Life, where Alderman has his own avatar, Stroker Serpentine. He recently made news by selling the virtual property Amsterdam for US$ 50,000 on eBay.

Alderman was the virtual author of a bed (for Adults only, let's leave it at that,) that sold for US$ 45 in Second Life. For those who aren't familiar with Second Life, you should know that the virtual money they use in-game (called Linden Dollars) has a corresponding value in real life. This bed has already sold an estimated 100,000 copies. That's a lot of cash for a non-existant piece of furniture.

the virtual property that spawned the lawsuit: the SexGen bed - Image 1

Now another guy in Second Life, named Volkov Catteneo, made a copy of the bed, or at least a near copy, and sold his version for US$ 15. You can imagine how Alderman would feel with this guy cutting into his profits with his own design.

The problem now is that no one knows the real identity of Catteneo. Alderman wants to file a subpoena to acquire the information on Catteneo's real identity but the developers behind Second Life, Linden Lab, has yet to give a solid reply to this legal action and are unavailable for comment. Catteneo, on the other hand, has this to say about the subpeona: “I’m not some kind of noob. My name isn’t on file.”  Not knowing the real identity of Catteneo, the lawsuit refers to him as John Doe.

Another thing about the case is the actual nuances of copyright on virtual property. Anything virtual is in essence only lines of code, so even though the bed may look the same when seen in the virtual world, the code isn't necessarily the same. Therefore, pinpointing where the actual infringement was made may be a problem.

Alderman feels that his company, Eros LLC, "has been damaged, and continues to be irreparably damaged by diversion of sales." He is suing Catteneo for three times the profits he has made with the copy of the bed.

We used to call this "WoW Weekend Machinima," but since it's not a weekend, and there's something good on YouTube, we decided to preempt our broadcast for another round of fun videos. This time, we've got Ian Beckman's "Azerothian Super Villains," episodes one and two, and they're definitely worth a view or two.

In "Azerothian Super Villains," Illidan, Kael'Thas and Archimonde have joined forces to try and rule all of Azeroth. They aren't doing so well though, since they're stuck in an ugly shack, and they've got some of the dumbest plans known to man.

In Episode 1, you'll see the trio as they try to launch a propaganda piece over the television, to no great effect. Needless to say, this prompts the creation of Episode 2, in which Illidan uses an enlarging wand on Kael'Thas (and Archimonde's anatomy) to have him wreak havoc around Stormwind.

Without further ado, here's Ian Beckman's "Azerothian Super Villains". Enjoy!

Blizzard Entertainment, as we previously reported, is planning to wreck havoc in the mobile arena. With a news like that, one's thoughts can't help but wonder if World of Warcraft (WoW) will ever appear on a handheld device. It sounds impossible at first but YouTube user viaarena123 has shown that it is actually very plausible.

The videos below show how the user was able to install WoW on OQO Model 2. The device was first shown during this year's Consumer Electronics Show back in January. Model 2 is actually a six-inch PC with a five-inch screen that runs either Windows XP or Vista.

Some of its technical features include 1.2 GHz or a 1.5 GHz processor, up to 1GB of RAM, up to a 60 GB hard drive, has Bluetooth 2.0, and tri-mode WiFi (802.11a/b/g).

Ó

I've been watching WoW addiction confessions on YouTube for the past few hours already, and let me tell you, there's an odd sense of guilty satisfaction. Guilt, because I know how it feels to be addicted to a game and actually lose hours I could've spent on something productive. More importantly, I feel guilt because there's this sick sense of joy in seeing that other folks got it worse than I did.

They didn't just drop out of school - they lost friends, and they got disconnected with family. They ruined some of the more permanent things in life, over something that was designed to be a pastime. Over something that was meant to compliment life and not take over it. I go: "Ha! Loser!" Yes, I know it's not nice. Schadenfreude, is the appropriate term, I think.

As much as I'd like to post those videos, I won't. They're pretty common place in the intertubes and I believe they'll just bore you. Instead I'll post a video that'll make you folks go: "Ha sucks to be them!" Remember all those times your parents threatened to send you to boot camp if you didn't straighten out but didn't actually? Well, these Chinese kids aren't as lucky as you are:

C'mon. Laugh all you want. They'll never know you were laughing at them.

Guilty pleasures aside, what's your take on this? Is China going a step too far? It's not like they don't already have measures (systems that kill your character if you play too long) against addiction, do they really need de-programming camps stocked with pseudo-shock-therapy-acupuncture equipment?
