When you play an MMORPG, part of the fun is having a social network of your own. Now if imagine a company were to buy a social network gaming startup for its MMORPG? That may be the case with EA Mythic, which is supposedly about to purchase Rupture from Shawn Fanning for possible use in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. More on this topic in the full article after the jump. |

A week ago, we told you about Shawn Fanning's new brainchild called Rupture - a social-networking site which aims to be the MySpace for MMOs. Now here we are, trying to give you a more concrete idea of what Rupture is all about. From our earlier article, you already know that you could publish your account profile, your character and guild, share pictures, stories and other what-nots. What you didn't know is that readily available character info and guild affiliations are just some of the features available through Rupture. After completely filling out your profile, Rupture would add it to their servers and then publish the information to your profile and include an IM/chat client. Plus, using Rupture is completely free of charge, just so you know. The Rupture site may already be up, but it is still in its beta phase and registration is currently open via invitation, but in spite of that, it's easy to see its potential, after all 8 million WoW users is indeed a very large market. We'll be sure to update you with developments concerning Rupture, for now you could go ahead and visit its homepage by clicking on our read link below. |

If you've always eyed that beautiful Draenei you've seen frolicking around the Outland prairies, stalking her just won't cut it anymore. You have to play the dating game with finesse. And if it's online dating you're talking about, the word "finesse" can mean a lot of things. The social-networking site project of Shawn Fanning ("the Napster guy") is already up. Rupture is already online and it's got the bare-bone features of what his team is planning to eventually implement in the future. Although this project's full goal is creating an MMO MySpace venue for players to interact with others, they're starting out with just one game for now: World of Warcraft. Least to say, hey!, that's got a lot of players to back it up in itself. But once they expand in the future to accept gamers from other games, then "WoW" is all we can say (and a good place for them to start). The website allows you to publish your account profiles, your character and guild, share pictures and stories, chat, and of course, meet new friends to join you on your quests. Get started with the Rupture; click the "Read" link below. |

After upending the entire music industry with Napster back before the bubble burst, founder and whiz kid Shawn Fanning's eyes are set on upending another world altogether: the World of Warcraft virtual community. Nope, this doesn't involve anything about music, so you Orcs and Elves and Humans and Undead won't have to shell gold for in-game MP3 players or something.Reported by Gamespot, and according to BusinessWeek Online, Shawn is working on "Rupture", "a virtual social community for online gamers." In other (Gamespot's) words, a "MySpace for Azeroth", although the concept could later on be adapted and extended to other MMO games. Rupture will allow players to instant message each other's friends while playing, organize themselves on the fly, track their guild stats, and so forth - okay, it's a MySpace + IM right in the WoW game world. Blizzard was unavailable for comment, says Gamespot. No other details were revealed, so all we have to go on is the MySpace allusion. Shawn intends to unveil Rupture sometime in the near future. Somehow, we wonder if some WoW modder, upon reading this, now intends to beat Fanning to the punch. And speaking of Napster, at least we're not talking about Second Life's CopyBot here. |
