PAX 2007 - Image 1It's never too early to reserve a place in the next Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). It was announced today that the event will be accepting registrations as early as January 2008. The last PAX had 37,000 gamers roaming its floor. Tickets were sold out so early registration may be a good idea.

PAX 2008 will be held on August 29 to 31 and attendance is expected to double again. "Again" because attendance has been doubling ever since the first PAX. The attendance grew so large that the last event was held in the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle just to fit everyone in.

Next year's PAX will mark the expo's fifth year and will continue the tradition of game exhibitions, conference programs (about games of course), concerts, tournaments, freeplay gaming and general fun times for everyone and all in the gaming community.

USA - Image 1Team USA has won the overall championship in the recently-concluded World Cyber Games (WCG) 2007 held in Seattle, Washington this weekend. The champs bagged a total of 6 medals, just one medal shy of a deadlock with South Korea's seven-medal record.

The Americans dominated in various platforms and came out on top in Gears of War, Dead or Alive 4, Project Gotham Racing, Tony Hawk's Project 8, and Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs

This year also saw the emergence of Germany in the RTS genre with 4 medals, topping powerhouse South Korea's three-medal performance. The United Kingdom also put on a stunner as they swept Starcraft with an unbeaten streak in the Singles game courtesy of star player Apollo.

When all was said and done, more than 700 players from 74 nations expressed their fulfillment in their participation throughout the event. Victory may not have been for everyone, but there was much happiness to be shared.

The World Cyber Games is the biggest e-sports gathering in the planet. It was founded in 2001 and has been one of the industry's most celebrated shindigs ever since, attracting fans and media from all over the world.

When gamers choose which MMORPG to play, payment is usually an important factor in making the decision. Payment models affect the success of online games, and recent Online Game Development Conference (OGDC) held in Seattle focused on this.

We all know WoW and its monthly fee. For some, it's a very reasonable price while others just don't want to pay so much to play a game. One of the panelists believe that subscription is fine if the game is updated regularly. On the other hand, someone from a Chinese publisher stated that only ten to twelve are subscription games in Korea. According to him, the market there is leaning towards subscription recently but it doesn't hurt profits without it.

Secondary markets were also brought up during the debate. Some people suggested that this unstoppable plague should just be accepted one way or another, but some also expressed their fear regarding the matter. Apparently, bigger companies suffer when players just pay farmers rather than their service.

While real world trading is generally considered illegal, many believe that a game will be considered successful when secondary markets exist: when players are willing to spend actual money outside the game just for virtual items. As someone said,"all successful games have a secondary market." In the end, they couldn't come up with a solid way to approach this issue.

So, what payment method do you prefer? Should selling items and gold for real money be accepted? Tell us what you think.
