Hey, che' owt meh boom-stick! Preh'ty ain't it? - Image 1"Th' quesch'n ta bloh a-way all quesch'ns, 'eh?" Dwarves in any fantasy setting, especially those revelling in the epic of scales, will almost certainly have a Scottish accent. In World of Warcraft, one particular denizen, Apolos, finally voiced out his curiousity: "Why do Dwarves have Scottish accents?"

Well, Blizzard representative Drysc has been no more helpful with the issue, claiming that there is no Scotland in Azeroth, so the accent that the Dwarves do have is plainly Dwarven accent.

Others have claimed that since the Dwarves live near Loch Modan (Loch is Lake in Scottish), they probably adopted the Scottish nature by instinct. But did the name come first or the Dwarves?

That's more like a "chicken before the egg or egg before the chicken" conundrum, so let's bury that before our heads begin to spin. The mystery behind the accent will always link back to ol' Tolkien and his short, stocky underground-dweller stereotype.

Either way, the folks at the WoW Forums are getting a bit sidetracked with over-the-top comments. Next time someone will be asking why the Draenei sound like Russian and why the Trolls just ooze Jamaican...
