It's one thing to look at the past in order to learn from it; it's quite another thing to examine the present and to see which direction you're heading toward. In the light of recent developments, various game industry insiders have taken to doing precisely those things. More reflection ensues in the full article after the jump. |

It's never too early to reserve a place in the next Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). It was announced today that the event will be accepting registrations as early as January 2008. The last PAX had 37,000 gamers roaming its floor. Tickets were sold out so early registration may be a good idea.PAX 2008 will be held on August 29 to 31 and attendance is expected to double again. "Again" because attendance has been doubling ever since the first PAX. The attendance grew so large that the last event was held in the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle just to fit everyone in. Next year's PAX will mark the expo's fifth year and will continue the tradition of game exhibitions, conference programs (about games of course), concerts, tournaments, freeplay gaming and general fun times for everyone and all in the gaming community. |

MMORPG EVE Online developer CCP Games, a long time supporter for the Child's Play charity for children, will be conducting a silent auction in line with its EVE Online Fanfest 2007 event. The auction aims to provide gaming equipment, toys, and crafting materials for children's hospitals for the benefit of patients and their families. This isn't the first time a gaming-related company has supported a charitable institution. Child's Play itself was originally founded by Penny Arcade, a famous name in the web comics and gaming circle. Several EVE collectible pieces will be up for grabs in the auction, as well as a chance to own a rare EVE object. Aside from that, solicitors will also be helping out kids all over the world by contributing to the event. One of the biggest prizes being auctioned, however, is a chance to visit the CCP offices in Reykjavik, Iceland. Winners can take a backstage look at one of the biggest sci-fi MMORPGs out there today. Bidding starts today until November 1. Multiple bids are allowed and can be made through the EVE Online official website, which can be accessed through the Read link below. |

In the recent Penny Arcade Expo, Flying Labs Software was able to deck out their upcoming MMORPG on the showfloor. And today, we've got a Pirates of the Burning Sea video interview lined up for you, straight from GamerVision. While the first half of the interview focuses on the nitty-gritty of avatar combat, another interesting aspect of PotBS is explained further: PvP battles.
See, PvP in PotBS is far different than what you might normally be used to. PvPs here are found in near ports where two opposing teams just hack at each other for days to claim the town near it. That's what turns the PvP area on - you'll be able to see a red ring on your map to find these PvP areas. Now the cool thing is there's going to be both ship combat and land combat in the entire battle, so tactics are definitely going to change every once in a while. Check out the full dev walkthrough in the video below! |
