Original Article -

There's a special fuzzy place for cartoon-like characters in the hearts of MMO addicts. There's Flyff, Rose Online, and Ragnarok. Well here's something straight from the pages of a comic book - Scions of Fate.

Scions of Fate (Yulgang) from mGame USA and Netgame is a multi-awarded Korean MMORPG which features martial arts. There are two factions in the game, The Order and Chaos. Much like the Realm vs Realm of DAoC, Scions of Fate has a system called Authority Clash where each faction battles each other for money and honor.

There are five basic characters to choose from: Swordsman, Bladesman, Spearman, Bowman, and Healer. Character progression is marked by four job promotions. Also, character jobs are set depending on what faction the player chooses.

Scions of Fate is scheduled for release on January 7 and they are currently on the lookout for beta testers. The slots are limited though, and interested parties would be able to join the closed beta by obtaining a Digital Key.

Here's the Beta Test schedule:

First Closed Beta: January 15 - 19
Testing Time: 2pm to 9pm US Pacific Time (-8:00GMT)
Test Objective: Bug and Stability Test

Second Closed Beta: January 22 - 26
Testing Time: 24 hours
Testing Objective: Ranking and PvP Testing, Premium Item Test, and gift cash distribution Test.

Third Closed Beta: January 29 - February 2
Testing Time: 24 hours
Test Objective: General overall test of the game; bugs, translation, stability, etc.

Now, a day before the closing of the Open Beta, to further spark your interest, developer Netgame has released these fine screenshots.

It may not look like much, but the choice of a combat system rooted in martial arts and ancient Chinese culture makes for an unique experience. Netgame has recruited popular martial arts novelists to design the storyline of Hero Online.

Reception on Hero Online's has been very good, and it's only a matter of time until Netgame has fleshed out and polished the full game. Until then, enjoy the new screens.

The Hero Online Closed Beta is officially finished now, and Netgame has now not only announced an Open Beta, they'll also be giving veteran players who continue playing the interesting MMO a nice present - the "Special Closed Beta Item". We have no idea what item exactly it's going to be, but the game's website will have more information regarding this event soon. In order to be eligible, it's enough to have participated in only one of the two Closed Betas, but you must have at least one character that reached past the 3rd Dan - which shouldn't be a problem for anyone who has played the Closed Beta regularly. Also, there'll only be one item per account, regardless of how many characters you have.

The Open Beta will launch on June 30, lasting for a full month. This is the opportunity for anyone to try out the game based on ancient Chinese culture. It's story was written by an acclaimed novelist, supporting the action-heavy gameplay where players can choose from a variety of realistic moves and attacks rooted in martial arts. The aesthetics and creativity of this fighting style make Hero Online a very special MMO experience.

Hero logo"Centuries ago, Qin Shi Huang, “Son of the Sky”, brought unity to China, ending the  Age of Chaos. He dreamed of immortality. In his quest for godhood, he became a tyrant, slaughtering all who opposed him.

"But it is the Mandate of Heaven that all things pass away. So it was with Qin Shi Huang. All traces of his glory and wealth vanished from the world when his palace, Ah-Bang Palace, burned down after his death.

"Twenty years past, the sun vanished as darkness spread throughout the heavens and the earth. In the midst of this Darkness, the Twelve Demons appeared, shaking the very foundations of the earth with renewed chaos and destruction..."

So begins the Legend of the Great Dragon, who, when all seemed lost, raised an Army of Warriors who finally defeated the Twelve Demons. For a time, the land enjoyed a time of peace - until one day, when the Great Dragon was found murdered in his own palace. His own wife seemed to be the assassin, although  some claimed she was found cradling his body in sorrow.

Some whispered that the Twelve Demons had returned...
