Could the wait be almost over for Codemasters and NetDevil's much-awaited new space combat MMO, Jumpgate Evolution? Almost, but not quite, probably, but the two companies have released a press wire announcing astounding news. The Beta sign-ups for the game in North America and Europe has hit a landmark score of 250,000, making it Codemasters Online's biggest Beta Campaign. Ever.

Joining the ranks of big console MMO names like DC Universe Online, The Agency, and Final Fantasy XI, is an unexpected newcomer, Lego Universe. According to the Lego Group's Project Lead, console versions are planned, the only question is when.

With already four MMO titles currently bearing the Codemasters seal, vice president David Solari outlines some of the future plans for the company in the next few years. Despite being an exciting and an excellent game, NetDevil decided to refine and re-develop Jumpgate and plans to re-christened it as Jumpgate Evolution. This seems an excellent move since the reactions from early testings are highly favorable.

Here's some good news for MMORPG players who have been wondering what happened to NetDevil's Jumpgate Evolution: the developer has finally announced that the game will be distributed and operated by Codemasters Online this year.

Despite its impressive settings and gameplay mechanics, NetDevil and NCsoft had to shut down the servers of MMORPG Auto Assault back in August of this year due to its lack of subscribers.

It seems that some parts of the world, however, such as Japan's Akihabara district, are either still in denial or haven't received the shutdown notice. One store in Akihabara is still selling Auto Assault time cards for a discounted price of 980 Yen (US$ 8.86). Read more about this after the jump!
