In a WoW Insider article about characters that fit our personality, the author discusses why her lower-leveled character was more fun to use than her higher-leveled Warlock. This got me intrigued, so I took the initiative and went on to take the "Your WoW Character" quiz on MySpace myself. I ended up being a Gnome Warrior. I took the test multiple times and ended up with the same result. I studied the description of the character and realized that while I play a Tauren Shaman in Blizzard's World of Warcraft, my in-game strategies/tendencies actually match the description. The quiz itself is strangely accurate as our editor also took the test and ended up as a Human Priest. It's pretty accurate given my perception of his personality, (he chose to be an Elvish hunter though). While some would say that they found a character that fit their personality, we'd prefer to believe that we mold our characters to our personality. More often than not, when we pick our first character, we don't know what to do so we just end up tired of playing a weak character. With our second character we then decide to make it as powerful as humanly possible because we can't have fun with a weak character right? As time goes on though, we begin to realize that there's more to playing the game than simply being powerful. Our personalities begin influencing the decisions that we make with regards to leveling, stat point allocation, and even equipment. Some take this further than others while a few would stick with their preset plans. By the time we choose our third character, we have already narrowed down how we want to play the game, so we decide accordingly. Of course, there are some players who picked one character when WoW came out and till today still feel that it is their favorite character. I am one such player, but I sometimes find myself acting out of character with regards to my Shaman (I chose engineering, how OOC is that right?) So what character are you? Do you find yourself molding your character to your personality, or do you find that certain characters appeal to you more than others because it just fits perfectly? |

A moment of silence for PC gamers: the world's second oldest dedicated PC gaming magazine and it's MMO offshoot magazine has been shut down by their publisher, TheGlobe.com. This information seeped into Gamasutra from two independent sources. Could it be because on the flurry of online game coverage? Not exactly.Computer Games Magazine, once competitor to PC gaming-renowned Computer Gaming World (now known as Gaming for Windows), now ends its 19 year coverage of the latest and hottest in the PC gaming industry. MMO magazine counterpart MASSIVE shares the same fate, after comprehensive coverage of popular MMOs World of Warcraft and PlanetSide since it's first issue. There has been no reply or word from TheGlobe.com on the matter, probably denoting the sheer gravity of the shake up. It also gives us reason to wonder about TheGlobe.com's other assets, such as classic and modern PC games warehouse Chips & Bits, VoIP solutions provider Voiceglo, and marketing wing SendTec. Rumors persist that the recent lawsuit against TheGlobe.com was the sole reason for the shutdown of the two publications. TheGlobe.com could owe from US$ 40 million to US$ 120 million in damages, for 100,000 unsolicited and unauthorized commercial e-mail messages to MySpace members through MySpace user accounts created by the company. 'Tis a sad day for the PC gaming generation if this turns out to be true. |

Steve O'Hear reports in his ZDNet Blog that although it may not be official - yet - John Edwards is the first presidential candidate to set-up "shop" in Linden Labs' virtual world, Second Life.Thank to a grass-roots effort headed and managed by Jerimee Richir, whose avatar is called Jose Rote, there is already an in-world campaign for Edwards. Now, we say grass-roots because although this is partially sponsored by Edwards' virtual headquarters, most of it (the campaign) is reportedly volunteer in nature. When asked by O'Hear about his relationship with the official Edwards campaign, Rote had this to say: ... think of this as a scouting mission... it is unofficial in that the campaign is not spending money, and I am not paid, however the campaign is aware that we are organizing in Second Life, and cooperating as much as they can. I keep them updated on what I have learned, and they let me know things that will be helpful. Given the relatively small user-base of SL compared to other online communities, Rote had this to say when questioned about the effectiveness of campaigning for Edwards in Second Life: While SL users do not have the same numbers as, say, MySpace, they have communication skills, and a desire to communicate, that, I humbly say, exceeds that of MySpace users. For example, and this is just a guess, but I bet that half of Second Life users regularly contribute to multiple blogs. So it is a smaller community, but I would argue it is a more influential community. Will virtual world support eventually translate into real-world votes? That is still uncertain, but given the amount of buzz that this (relatively) small community of avatars, land-barons, and virtual-world business-folk is generating, we think it's safe to say that campaigning in SL will at the very least, help further Edward's campaign efforts. |

A week ago, we told you about Shawn Fanning's new brainchild called Rupture - a social-networking site which aims to be the MySpace for MMOs. Now here we are, trying to give you a more concrete idea of what Rupture is all about. From our earlier article, you already know that you could publish your account profile, your character and guild, share pictures, stories and other what-nots. What you didn't know is that readily available character info and guild affiliations are just some of the features available through Rupture. After completely filling out your profile, Rupture would add it to their servers and then publish the information to your profile and include an IM/chat client. Plus, using Rupture is completely free of charge, just so you know. The Rupture site may already be up, but it is still in its beta phase and registration is currently open via invitation, but in spite of that, it's easy to see its potential, after all 8 million WoW users is indeed a very large market. We'll be sure to update you with developments concerning Rupture, for now you could go ahead and visit its homepage by clicking on our read link below. |

If you've always eyed that beautiful Draenei you've seen frolicking around the Outland prairies, stalking her just won't cut it anymore. You have to play the dating game with finesse. And if it's online dating you're talking about, the word "finesse" can mean a lot of things. The social-networking site project of Shawn Fanning ("the Napster guy") is already up. Rupture is already online and it's got the bare-bone features of what his team is planning to eventually implement in the future. Although this project's full goal is creating an MMO MySpace venue for players to interact with others, they're starting out with just one game for now: World of Warcraft. Least to say, hey!, that's got a lot of players to back it up in itself. But once they expand in the future to accept gamers from other games, then "WoW" is all we can say (and a good place for them to start). The website allows you to publish your account profiles, your character and guild, share pictures and stories, chat, and of course, meet new friends to join you on your quests. Get started with the Rupture; click the "Read" link below. |

Yes, the beta sign-up for the game went live a few days ago. No, the game is not in closed Beta yet. Why so? Well Cuppa Jo explains that the it will be at least a month before closed beta starts. She also adds that if you won a beta slot via a contest or some sort of promotion, you do not need to fill out the beta sign up form. Contest winners are automatically part of the first wave of the closed beta. As for when the beta will start? Here's what Cuppa Jo had to say:
Of course we here at QJ will let you know as well. Stay tuned for the latest Tabula Rasa news and updates! |
