Hellgate: London Xfire chat session transcript - Image 1The Xfire chat for MMORPG Hellgate: London took place yesterday as expected and the fine folks from Flagship Studios has been very accommodating. The game has been officially launched and despite some early problems, the overall feedback from the community has been positive.

A lot of questions were raised but some that caught our attention include the problems of players with Hellgate: London's seemingly limited environment. Flagship Studios CEO Bill Roper took the question and reminded everyone about the patch:

Believe it or not, there are more diverse areas in Hellgate: London than there were in Diablo II. Think about the second Act in D2. Sand. Lots of Sand. And a star chamber. And then some underground sand. We do a lot more to diversify our acts, and the patch that is available on day one (well, today) goes a long way to theming acts better so that you can get a better feel for that diversity.

When asked about the MMORPG'ss plans on guild systems, Flagship's Senior Community Manager Kaiser Hwang explained that the guild system has already been introduced with Patch 0. The official added that while they have a lot of unique ideas of their own regarding the feature, they would want to hear what the community wants.

Aside from already mentioned, the chat covered a lot of all other things including game design, marketing efforts, future plans, and whatnot. To read the whole transcript of the chat session, click the Read link below.

Looks like a member of the Primus caste from Hellgate London - Image 1If you've ever wondered what it would be like to conduct play testing on another country's Hellgate: London server, then wonder no more.

Kaiser Hwang, Senior Community Manager of Flagship Studios, recently announced that they would be sending out Hellgate: London European Beta invites to American players via email. He explained that Flagship Studios needs more help from players with testing.

Hwang also clarified some details regarding login info and accounts, depending on whether or not you pre-ordered the game from a participating European retailer (and if you registered your U.S. account before 6 p.m. PST on October 23).

If you've met all the above criteria, just use your U.S. account's login info. If you haven't pre-ordered from a European retailer, however, then you must manually create an EU account in order to participate in the EU beta testing.

Oh, and one more thing: Mr. Hwang advises you to keep your Hellgate: London pre-order codes handy, especially if you haven't redeemed them yet.

Hellgate London 2038 - Image 1

Kaiser Hwang, Senior Community Manager for Flagship Studios, took the time to address the various issues that Hellgate: London players may have had with certain conditions in the end user license agreement (EULA) of the DX9 version of the game. Hellgate: London players were apparently concerned about the protection of their personal information, as well as about the various in-game advertisements strewn throughout Hellgate: London.

Hwang said that the EULA was written as such so that Flagship Studios would have the ability to determine if players were using hacks or mods to cheat, and not to scan players' PCs for personal information. In fact, Hwang mentioned that Flagship Studios has spent the last six months becoming part of the ESRB Privacy Online certification program to insure that the company is meeting the rigorous industry standards for protecting player privacy.

Regarding the abundance of Hellgate: London's in-game advertising, Kaiser Hwang explained that the purpose of having ads was to simulate how the ads look in the real world, and not to make more money for Flagship Studios. If they really wanted to run ads just to make money, Hwang argued, then they would have to get the approval of every single company whose ads appear in the game - an utterly time consuming process that Flagship Studios doesn't wish to do.

Hwang summed up his point in one gaming golden rule: since the Flagship Studios people are also players, they only treat other players the way they themselves would want to be treated. For the full explanation of the EULA issues, you can check the source link for more information.

A female Templar from Flagship Studios' Hellgate: London - Image 1

Flagship Studios, developers of the Hellgate London MMORPG">Kaiser Hwang, Community Manager of Flagship Studios, recently revealed the various Hellgate: London in-game goodies that would be made available to the gaming public upon the game's launch on October 31, 2007. Hwang cautioned, however, that some of them may or may not be immediately available upon launch review time, depending on how things go. He also indicated that certain treats will only be available to subscribers.

Goodies for Hellgate: London subscribers include: two extra (harder) difficulty levels, twenty-one extra character slots, long-term quests (called Achievements), a larger character storage locker and a guild creation option. Mr. Hwang made special note of the All Hallows' Eve themed events that would last from October 31 up to November 4. Rewards such as special quests, candies, helms and even cyborg pets round out the possible unlockable rewards.

Flagship Studios hasn't forgotten about the non-subscribing players, though. Kaiser Hwang mentioned that all Hellgate: London players will be able to experience new features that include loads of additional back-story, tuned NPC vocal responses, larger Nightmare Mode levels and the option of a free-for-all PvP mode outside of Underground hubs.

In spite of the flak that Flagship Studios has received for the purportedly mediocre beta version of Hellgate: London, the developers remain confident that the game will live up to players' expectations.
