Let's play a little association game. When I say "men in video game development," whose names come first to mind? Kojima? Jaffe? Miyamoto? The list goes on. Now how about if I say "women in video games development?" You probably thought of Jade Raymond then... blank. Kind of imbalanced ain't it? That was the point of Emily Newton-Dunn, former producer of the Burnout series. She remarks that there is a gender imbalance in the industry and that there should be more women making games. No matter what your stand is, here's a list of non-girly games that aren't Barbie, Bratz, or any of those glamorous stuff. |

Yep, straight from Aussie Kotakuite Luke from...well, Kotaku, it seems that the Asia-Pacific version of E3 was a bust. Aside from enthusiastic PC and LAN gamers who attended the show, Luke summed up the lackluster turn-out, stating, "The venue was too big, the crowds too small and the number, and relevance, of games on-show was rubbish." With the promise of game demonstration booths, the 2007 GO3 Expo was a little underhanded to deliver, without giants like Sony and Nintendo to showcase their line-up of games for their consoles at Perth, Australia. Microsoft, as an official sponsor, did make an appearance at the show. According to Luke, the only booth worthy of note was Sierra Entertainment's World in Conflict that allowed gamers to try out the yet-to-be-released game. While the conference period from Friday to Saturday, with Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima as a guest speaker, was anything but a disappointment, the latter part of the event, which happened at the extremely roomy showroom floor, wasn't something to boast about either. In fact, with booths displaying already released games, there was nothing really left for gamers to go for. Of course, with the cos-play competition, the LAN gaming event and the showcase of Australia's ESWC 2007 team, it wasn't such a disappointment. Well, at least not to PC fans for the most part, that is... Click on the "Read" link below to get more picture coverage of the 2007 GO3 Expo, courtesy of Kotaku and Luke. |

GamesRadar alerts folks that in a recent interview with Edge magazine, the legendary Hideo Kojima, head of super-studio Kojima Productions, revealed his unlikely and unhinged vision for a zombie-themed game. According to Kojima, he's "less interested in the idea of the living dead than the fact you can turn people just by biting them." So much is his focus on "turning" people, that he even considers implementing his take on zombie-apocalypse in a massively-multiplayer online environment. He explains: Imagine a large town where half the inhabitants are zombies. Users would subscribe, get inside the town and get bitten. At that stage they become undead and can't control their character - all they can do is modify the camera angles. Not getting to control your character if you get turned? Having to hunt your former "self" and kill it (if it got zombified it's an "it" now), just to progress the game? Get bombarded by cinematics of mindless zombies? All too silly? Well, despite Kojima's own reservations about his over-the-top and unlikely Zombie-MMO, he says that he won't rule the idea out. GamesRadar reports that should he feel that the moment is opportune, he will "take some time to prepare. Very seriously." Well, the cinematic aspect of the whole thing is trademark Kojima. |
