NCsoft Q3 performance up, Guild Wars sales rise 57% - Image 1NCsoft, the Korea-based MMORPG publisher, wired over its financial performance for the third quarter (Q3) of the company's operating year 2007. With sales from Guild Wars, Lineage, Lineage II, and City of Heroes/Villains, NCsoft observed a net income of US$ 11.2 million (KRW 10.1 billion).

Despite a slight dip in income performance, NCsoft noted a Guild Wars sales rise of 57% overall, thanks to the release of Guild Wars: Eye of the North in Europe. Lineage II has also seen modest increase in sales, and the publisher expects a better financial outcome by Q4.

Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa screenshot - Consulting the Eloh - Image 1

The weekly screenshot update for Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa has just been released and it features the advanced alien species known as the Eloh. It should be remembered that after a great war won by the Eloh, a separatist movement was formed called the Neph. This faction later became the Bane after allying itself with other forces.

The screenshot above shows two AFS soldiers consulting a hologram created by the Eloh. This device, alongside other ancient technologies, was left behind by the once mighty race to tell their story to the younger generation. These devices also tell about the war fought long ago and how the Bane can be ultimately defeated.

Tabula Rasa
is home to a rich lore aside from engaging gameplay experience - two ingredients that never fail to create a hit MMORPG. Developed by Destination Games and to be published by NCsoft, the video game is expected to go live on November 2.

Attention space cadets! We've got another screenshot update for the upcoming MMO, Tabula Rasa. Nope, we don't have the screenshot of the week. Rather, there's a whole batch of them for you to uncover.

In case you've been living under a moss-covered rock, Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa is an MMO from NCSoft and Destination Games that features a post apocalyptic world where humans are battling with nasty aliens. In the screenshots, we see some pretty effects (that blue net-like projection looks cool), a number of big and small alien species, plus some environments-slash-battlefields.

While we wait for Tabula Rasa to see its public release, check out the screenshots, just so you see what we mean.

Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa - Image 1Attention soldiers! We've got a new Tabula Rasa video for you and it will help motivate you for our campaign.

This new Tabula Rasa video is actually a great briefer for the newbie soldiers as it features where it all started. In the trailer, we see just how the invaders took the human race by surprise and how some people were handpicked to fight. "We never saw it coming" is probably the worst thing somebody could say when you're at the business end of a full scale invasion.

We'll let you watch the movie and see for yourselves. We'll bring you more news from NCSoft and Destination Games' Tabula Rasa so stay tuned.

The Tabula Rasa movie comes after the jump!

Starr Long, co-founder of Destination Games - Image 1Over at CVG, Starr Long of Destination Games had quite a lengthy interview about Tabula Rasa. And while pretty much everything they've discussed has probably already been covered before in our numerous TR updates, one of the more interesting points during the sit-down was when they were talking about how big the game was.

After all, the game allows you to explore different planets (Starr says we'll be starting out with two planets upon shipment of the game), so how expansive is the MMORPG, really?

Jason Starr answers CVG with the following:

We're shipping with two planets, and each of those planets has two main continents, with many instanced spaces on each of the continents. You'll have to play to find out the exact size of these planets. But the game is pretty large, and very in-depth, with a lot of beautiful crafting of the spaces by our world builders and artists. For example our Logos elements; some are easy to find and some are very well hidden and you will have to explore these places to find out. I don't event know where all of them are, which is good. I don't want to know. I want to play the game to find out.

So not only does it sound massive, but more importantly, Starr convincingly (for this writer at least) says how immersive it is - saying how the only way to really find out is to play the game.

Tabula Rasa artwork - Image 1

After what seemed to have been a period of inactivity, NCsoft has made its appearance at the ongoing Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. This year, they proudly shared details about the upcoming MMORPG, Tabula Rasa. Over at the GDC, more details about this title were finally revealed.

Developed by Destination Games, this MMORPG will feature elements such as an integrated voice chat system (very handy for raids and instances as it won't require the player to install a separate program just to be able to chat with his teammates), PvPs which can be prompted by clans declaring war on each other, the option to temporarily join squads or permanently swear allegiance to clans, as well as a Character Cloning system which allows players to explore different character paths without having to start over.

Besides these, the game also promises a lot of leg room for the player. There will be several planets to explore, each with its own range of continents and regions. Also, players will be able to craft items for either personal use or trade.

And then there's the Battlefield Control Points. Now, one can remember that one of the selling points of Tabula Rasa is that the players themselves will effect the ultimate outcome of the game as they battle against the Bane and master the power (and language) of the Logos. Well, the Battlefield Control Points will apparently be playing a role in realizing this point of allowing players' actions to change the game: "entrenched positions on a given battlefield can change hands over the course of a battle and affect spawn points and missions of both enemy and friendly characters."

It all sounds very promising, and we're hoping to see if we'll be able to score a beta account for this title. So, while we wait for this game to be released by Fall of this year, here's some artwork and some screenies to enjoy for the moment.

More details, screenshots and artwork after the Jump!

Yes, I know that you hardcore console folks (I'm looking at you, PSPeeps!) hate seeing this sort of stuff on your blogs, but I'm giving you warning - there's a shameless plug ahead! But we gotta get the word out on two of our newest blogs - and not just any blogs, our first game specific blogs! We all know that MMORPG's are big, and it's the nature of an online beast to have lots of news, updates, patches, mods and upgrades to talk about. These new blogs have been lurking around the QJ network all this week, but it's time to give them the proper introduction they deserve.

QJ's World of Warcraft Blog

Okay, so that one doesn't need much of an introduction. Everyone's heard of a little game called World of Warcraft, right? Yeah, I thought so. It is the MMORPG of our times with millions upon millions of players wandering through the world of Azeroth every single minute of every single day. And that's just the beginning. With the upcoming release of the Burning Crusade expansion, things are about to get even bigger. So it's a perfect time to launch our own WoW blog to keep everyone on top of every single bit of info out there! There's no stopping World of Warcraft from dominating the globe...

QJ's Tabula Rasa Blog

...or is there? You see, there's this little gem of a game that's been in the works for over 4 years from the fine folks at NCSoft and Destination Games. At the helm is Ultima Online">Richard Garriott aka Lord British, the mastermind behind the grand-daddy of modern MMORPG's - Ultima Online. With experience and an award winning art team on their side, Tabula Rasa hopes to wipe the slate clean and knock WoW off its high horse. With a unique crossbreeding of 3rd person RPG action with alien-blasting FPS controls and tactics, it might do just that.

TR will soon be hitting the beta stage, and we here at QJ want to be in on the ground floor of what will most likely be the next big thing in the MMORPG universe. This is the place to be if you want to keep up on all the latest news, art renders, screenshots, and developments.

So there you have it - two new blogs to check out, with some pretty snazzy sneak peaks and exclusive content on the way. And a third new blog isn't far behind, and hopefully it will fill the obvious hole in the QJ Network when it comes to gaming news!

Tabula Rasa

Tabula Rasa has one big thing going for it, and that "one big thing"goes by the name Richard Garriott... yep, the same Richard Garriott responsible for the phenomenon known as Ultima. So before all the haters scream that it's just something uncreative made to drain money from those with fond memories of UO, read on and see what we have here. Here are a few gameplay details (and clips) that the nice folks from Gamespot were able to gather from E3.

This game by Destination Games is nice a blend of shooter action and role-playing. You can switch from third to first-person views, and for those who aren't really that adept at "twitch" gaming (or just don't have to proper reflexes), the game has an auto-aim feature. The game also factors in role-playing (we assume that they mean increasing levels) calculations in combat. If you put the cross-hair over a target and fire, you'll pretty much get a guaranteed hit, but the game will calculate the damage you do.

Here's a clip we found floating around YouTube.

Read the full article to get more info on gameplay, some more clips, and a few vids for you guys to download.
