In Turbine Inc's Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, reputation is a commonly misunderstood aspect of the game. The Content Designer of the game Jesse King, discussed this very topic in the developers blog and shared some of the more important details on this gameplay element. He said that reputation represents two things in the game. In lore or story terms, it represents how much a faction likes or dislikes you. This is very important since some groups will refuse to have anything to do with you until you can get some favor from them. Once you do gain some reputation however, you'll find that it is worth the time and effort you invested. In terms of gameplay, it also acts as an alternate ladder of advancement as was previously mentioned. This is perfect for lone-wolf players as it allows them to obtain high-end rewards that they'd normally only get by partying up with other players. However, just because it can be done solo, doesn't mean that it'll be easy. Even King admits that "the amount of effort required to pursue reputation rewards tends to be fairly high." Most of the reputation-raising quests involve fighting normal mobs. If you don't want to go through that grind, you have other options such as crafting or purchasing faction trophies on auction and giving it to the appropriate NPCs. So go try and gain some reputation from the different factions of Middle-Earth, it'll help you make your character stronger as well as help add to the immersion factor of the game.
