Our solar system has experienced some major changes recently, and there couldn't be a better time to develop am extensive science fiction media franchise like Stargate into a game, aptly titled Stargate Worlds. Well, maybe that wasn't exactly what Lead Systems Designer David “Zeb” Cook and the Cheyenne Mountain team had in mind, but if the shoe fits right? The original Stargate film that starred Kurt Russell as Col. Jonathan "Jack" O'Neil, out to save the world from alien invasion and mass destruction, has spawned the longest running Sci-Fi series in history; Stargate SG-1 that starred Richard Dean Anderson of MacGyver fame, Stargate Atlantis and a cartoon series called Stargate Infinity. Here's an excerpt of the interview with Cook. Q: Stargate SG-1 is now the longest running Sci-Fi television series in history – it has more than ten seasons plus a successful spin-off series. There’s no question you have a lot of universe to build a game around, but what material have you decided to include and exclude thus far into the development process? David “Zeb” Cook: Since we are still quite early in the process, there are a lot of unknowns, so getting specific is pretty tough to do. Most of our effort right now is in hammering down just what will make sure the game is Stargate SG-1 – how can we capture the tone of the writing, tell stories that feel right for the world, and give players roles that are Stargate-ish. That’s far more important at this stage – the answers to those questions will guide us to the content from the series that best makes the game. So, at this point, nothing is absolutely excluded – although some material is far more likely than others. We have a not-so short list of things that MUST be in the game. (Most of this is horribly obvious – Stargates, humans, Jaffa, etc.) After that comes the list of things we really WANT and plan to include. THEN, beyond that is the list of things that would be nice but is not something we see as crucial. The full interview is available via the read link. Meanwhile here are some concept art to get you excited about the game. |

Last time, Electronic Arts Mythic gave us some new info regarding the much-awaited MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot: Labyrinth of the Minotaur. We really liked the idea that we'd be going through a large maze with a cute little Clockwork Kitten. We wonder if she needs any springy yarn or something to play with. Although the most awaited character is the Minotaur; an extremely powerful playable character. See, the image? He's holding a two-handed axe with one hand! He's that strong. So we were looking for any new info regarding this game and we saw an interview Director of Community Relations Sanya Thomas. When asked why they decided to do a cross-realm class/race game expansion, she said that it gives them new ways of exploring possible storylines in the future. It can make players think of other ways of fighting/working/interacting with others in the game. As for the Minotaur, holding the two-handed axe with one hand? She was a bit unsure of that one; looks like a no-comment statement to us. Uh-oh. Changes may ne in the works for this one. One teeny-weeny bit of advice though: Don't fix something that ain't broken. Regarding the new class-the Mauler, she's saving any more info on the Las Vegas Roundtable. The Maze itself is the main bad guy in this game, not the monsters in it. Not that much with Boss Monsters. We're speculating that it might include a lot of deathtraps and secret trapdoors and the like. Hmmm...seems good in the beginning but can it sustain interest in the game? Remember, it's all speculation, folks. A story-driven content does not mean a Trials of Atlantis II, she says. Good, the last thing we need is a copycat. |

It's time for another round of Dark Age of Camelot updates. The DAoC team had been busy with the usual bug fixes and changes in gameplay features. To start off, Bolts have been changed to make sure they hit a target in combat, unless the target is being melee attached by an enemy within a range of 200 units. If such cases, there's a 20% chance of failure for each attacker. Also, NPCs are given some due recognition with specialty titles. These titles are reserved for NPCs providing special services: Realm Point Removers, Trifecta Dealers, and Dread Seal Merchants.Over at the New Frontiers, gatekeepers and guards at the Hibernian portal keep to match the new graphics/layout (for Pendragon). The Ancient Hermit in Cathal Valley has been itemized. On the Hounds of Arawn front, members who are not on the quest will now be teleported to the correct locations. That's barely half of what the DAoC team had posted. So, just click on the "Read" link to read more of the updates on Trials of Atlantis, class changes and fixes, and co-op server notes. |
