Beta Testing
Ó
|
We have just picked up a press wire announcing that WEBZEN has begun close beta testing in Korea for their Huxley MMOFPS. The beta tests commenced yesterday (September 13), and are expected to last for five days. The 999 beta players had been selected from a recent online sign-up from August 28 to September 6. Players will be allowed to access the game daily from 2 p.m. until 12:00 p.m. midnight. The players will be starting off at level 19 in-game - instead of the usual level 1 in most MMORPGs and MMOFPS - to give them access to the higher-level equipment at a much earlier stage. Huxley's players are given access to the city, where they can mingle and interact with fellow testers. Features for Huxley's closed beta include PvP modes such as team death match and radar domination, and single player quests. That's all the news we've got for the moment - check back again for future Huxley-related updates. |

The9, the same game operator who brought World of Warcraft to China, has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Webzen Inc. for an exclusive license to operate the MMOFPS, Huxley, in China. Huxley takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where human beings have mutated and divided into two warring races, Sapiens and Alternative. In addition to that, The9 has also secured an exclusive license to operate another MMO, Soul of the Ultimate Nation. According to Jun Zhu, The9's Chairman and CEO: We are very pleased that The9 obtained, in addition to Soul of The Ultimate Nation(TM), another exclusive license to operate a high-caliber game from Webzen in mainland China. The FPS style game is one of the key genres of online games. With unique game features and a clear-cut FPS focus, we believe Huxley has much prospects for the Chinese online game market, and will further enhance and diversify The9's game portfolio. |

Unreal Engine

After a rather long period of lull, the Korean game publisher Webzen is back with new updates on their upcoming MMORPG, Huxley. Bound to be released some time this year, this MMO title makes use of the Unreal Engine 3, and is expected to bowl over both PC and XBox 360 gamers with its detailed graphics and physics. A game that can be more accurately refer ed to as an MMOFPS, the game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are still reeling from the effects of massive natural disasters. As if that wasn't enough, humans were divided into two opposing races: the Alternatives who have undergone major mutations after being exposed to powerful energy sources known as Lunarites, and the Sapiens who were treated as slaves once the Alternatives discovered that they are physically stronger than the Sapiens. Scheduled to be released some time this year, we can't wait to see what Webzen has managed to make with the Unreal Engine. |

When we mention the lines "MMO", the thought that goes into most people's heads is the usual fare of leather/iron-clad guys running around in some deep, dark dungeon, smacking away with medieval swords, or nuking away with some archaic incantation. Well, we've been looking over this recently released gameplay trailer for Webzen's Huxley MMOFPS, and while we do see a lot of leather/iron-clad guys, we also see a lot of what we love about FPS: Grenade launchers, machine guns, and all that smells of wonderful, wonderful cordite...ahhh. The trailer was also kind enough to show us bits and pieces of the online community - at least when they're not trying to blow each other of the maps, and while it has a very strange semblance to the recently released GoW, we're hoping Webzen delivers on their promise that the RPG aspect to this soon-to-launch Korean MMOFPS adds a degree of immersiveness to its genre. In a move that could be seen as a further testament to how commercialized gaming has been, Massive Incorporated and WEBZEN have inked a deal sealing plans to the latter's upcoming games to have in-game advertising. It's a first for both companies, with Massive deflowering the Asian market and WEBZEN a noobie in providing services to in-game advertising.Frontlining the duo of WEBZEN production included in this tie-up is the much anticipated Huxley. The MMORPG title takes full advantage of the recently developed UNREAL3 engine to create unique gaming experience with up to 5,000 players converging in the same world. The game's setting is an alternative future where humans have mutated and are divided into two opposing races - Sapiens and Alternative. The mutants are vying for the power Lunarities, in the process slaughtering the enemies they run against. This game is also coming out on Xbox 360. All Points Bulletin, Huxley's brother, is a game dubbed as "Cops and Robbers MMO". Showing a glowing resemblance to the highly-successful (and controversial) Grand Theft Auto series (game was designed by GTA creators, so I guess that explains it), All Points Bulletin combines nearly limitless customization with intense urban action in a virtual city aka battleground. APB is planned for a 2008 release. Recently acquired by Microsoft, Massive Incorporated is set to integrate real-world ad campaigns that are timely and enhance the game environment with more realism - let's just hope that happens. Imagine seeing flashing ads while you're deeply engrossed in slaying mutants or other enemies, that's just a turnoff. |

Korean publisher/developer Webzen is going to be pretty darn huge in a little while. They've got an envious slate of MMO's lined up that include Project Wiki, Soul Of The Ultimate Nation, an unnamed Red 5 project, and the highly anticipated MMOFPS Huxley, and yeah, that stands for Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter. Now stop me if you've heard this one before, but it's the future and it's a post apocalyptic landscape, earthquakes, tidal waves and massive climate changes have ravaged the earth, cutting continents off from one another and throwing human civilisation into chaos.
The survivors of these catastrophes dream of the days when things were better and life was simpler, the sudden appearance of mutants among the population causes further anarchy, racism and oppression rear their ugly heads and a human civil war breaks out. The Alternatives and The Sapiens wage bloody war and battle for control of a powerful energy source, the Lunarites, created by scientist and possible savior, the titular Huxley! Get the skinny on Webzen's epic sci fi fantasy MMO after the jump! |
