QJ.NET reviews Soldier Front - Image 1With a passion for trying out every game that comes across our paths, we at QJ.NET went through a few skirmishes in developer DragonFly's Soldier Front on ijji, a Western portal for free games. It's a first-person shooter that shamelessly takes cues from Counter-Strike down to the core, but if you're itching to get a hand on the trigger to shoot other players online without having to pay money, Soldier Front may be worth a try. Find out why by reading our review at the full article.

GunZ: The Duel - Image 1What do you get when you combine guns, swords and Matrix-like moves in a game set in a semi-steampunk world? You get GunZ: The Duel, a game that turns players into a pumped-up-to-the-max action star with a predilection for running along walls and without the subtle philosophical and environmental lessons you usually get from a Steven Seagal movie. Hit the "read more" link below for QJ.NET's review of GunZ: The Duel.

Pirates of the Burning Sea - Image 1We've heard quite a lot about Pirates of the Burning Sea, but is it just a mere drop in an ocean of MMORPGs, or something that rises out of the water like a voracious sea monster ready to devour a ship or two? We find out ourselves as we review the official beta tour of the game. Check out the entire story in the full article.

Headplay Personal Cinema System - Image 1

Headplay is probably every couch potato's dream. Imagine a TV. Now imagine being able to take it anywhere and everywhere you go (except perhaps in the shower), and being able to watch movies or play games on it anytime you want. That's the concept for the new "Personal Cinema System" device, Headplay.

Headplay is a head-mounted device; basically, a TV you wear on your head. You can connect it to your gaming consoles, your DVD Player, your iPod, your PC, and maybe your Betamax player if it hasn't choked on dust yet. If it has a video out function, Headplay can most probably display it. You can also plug in a memory stick and Headplay can run the media files - movies, videos, and images - with its own built-in player.

Once you're behind the lenses of Headplay it's pretty easy to just relax and go dead to the world around you. It's nothing but you and the screen, with the stereo sounds blocking off everything else. It's like your own movie screen inside your living room.

Slag Golem goes: Uuuuuaaargh!

How would an MMORPG be complete without big hulking monstrosities that lay waste to their domain and pound the puny players into organic compost for the soil? Well, you can't always blame them if they're always grumpy and out to crush the living daylights out of you. It is, after all, a requirement for colossal abominations to be grumpy all the time and stomp around the land with an evil-like swagger (usually though, this is simply because they have a little thorn stuck on their big toe).

The Slag Golems are native to the Sharkhead island in City of Villains. They are titanous beasts made up of living scraps of metal and junk. They have been witnessed eating junk, but whether or not this replenishes their health, no one knows. They were first reported to have been seen during the 50's and 60's when miners were suddenly being brutally attacked. The Slag Golems would "melt" out from the piles of junk and waste and lash out at the miners.

As the Slag Golems lurk around their domain, they constantly speak of protecting their Guardian and that humans who try to intrude into Sharkhead pose a threat to this Guardian. Who, what, or where this supposed Guardian is, no one has still been able to answer. What's sure though is that the Golems' response to these intruding miners is direct violence.

You might want to check it out for yourself and maybe find a whiff of this Guardian amidst all the compost and trash. Because you know what they say: one man's junk is another man's treasure!

AA

At least one reviewer has given Auto Assault a grade of C, rating it 6.9 out of a possible 10. The reason has to do with the user base - which at the moment, is virtually non-existent. One may encounter another user once or twice in an hour depending where on the map one is playing. The further one advances, the more infrequently one encounters another player, and since there is a dearth of users at this time, it's difficult - if not impossible - to go on to the higher levels. Players you are likely to meet will most likely be available only for trade or chat (a global chat function allows one to send a message to all online users). It also has a tendency to hinder role playing.

This leads what others describe as a "fatal flaw" in the game's class system. Auto Assault was designed to have convoys of different users, each attempting his/her own mission, thus making a unique contribution. As an individual, its difficult to survive many battles. The best advice: play the Commando/Fighter class. Since Auto Assault is centered around killing everything in sight, it makes sense to develop Killing as a primary skill.

Despite this, most gamers find AA enjoyable on many levels. As word gets out and more gamers sign on,  AA may achieve its full potential as a top MMORPG.
