Knight Online developer Mgame Corporation and publisher K2 Network Inc. today announced that their fantasy MMORPG has reached four million registered users. The game has been seeing steady increases in its player base since the release of the Reign of the Fire Drake expansion last year.

"We are constantly striving to create games that can build and establish strong communities and we are ecstatic by the amount of support the online community has given us," said Joshua Hong CEO and Co-founder K2 Network. "Knight Online is a remarkable title that will continue to captivate gamers far into the future."

Knight Online debuted in Korea in 2004 and now has servers operating in China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and North America. The popular Free2Play title is currently being enjoyed by millions of players in over 80 countries. In celebration of this new milestone, check out the new screenshots of the game below.

Go stand in the corner, you naughty, naughty boy! - Image 1K2 Networks is cleaning house, and more than 3400 bug exploiters have been given the boot. Over on the official Knight Online website, the following announcement was posted:

In efforts to provide a better gaming experience to all players, your Knight Online team has penalized 3469 accounts identified in our databases to have been exploiting the recent quest bug. Players that have abused this bug received an experience point double penalty. This penalty is based on their total experience earned and how many times the bug was abused. An example of this is if a level 70 player used this bug to level to 75, that would result in the player being de-leveled to 65.

Remember that any exploitation of discovered bugs can be punishable up to account termination.

Okay, so it's not exactly "boot time" as my caffeine-addicted downstairs neighbor defines it, but a penalty is a penalty, and it's good to know that whoever had it coming got what he or she rightfully deserved. And, uh, knowing is half the battle! Or something.

You guys seem to have wanted that patch for Knight Online really bad, despite the game being around 2 years old already. So we thought that you guys might appreciate a good nostalgic look at the teaser, cinematic videos, and gameplay trailer for the game.

Complaints about the numerous in-game "bots," the cheating, or even the "odd" (or so sentiment says) K2 Network service, seem to have not deterred fans of the game. Because despite the fact that (lets be honest here) the graphics for the game isn't really all that, and the in-game annoyances (cheaters, macro users, etc) are rampant, there are always people out there posting about how fun the game is.

Oh how "fun" redeems.

Below is the teaser video. It's the cutest among the lot. Given that it's almost Halloween, it's nice that it actually made me go, wtf?

Knight Online

Patch 1461 - despite the fact that the name sounds like a game title of some Medical/Surgical/Action-adventure game, the patch for K2 Networks' Knight Online is already up and available at their site.

With this update, level 60 players can now trade their purchased Power Up Store items with other players after a 48-hour holding period. On the other hand, players below level 60 can now purchase items for the Power up store or receive them from high level players. Of course, they can't trade the items themselves.

It's always good to see a game developer releasing patches for a game. Despite the connotations that the game is buggy, it shows that the developers are dedicated to pleasing their community of gamers.

KOLAugust 1: K2 Online announced that the new expansion (Reign of the Fire Drake) patch for Knight Online (KOL) is already available. Thus, all servers will be shut down from 1 PM to 9 PM PST on August 2 to make way for the expansion update.

August 2: K2 announced that all servers have been shut down. The new world, Pathos, will be made available once the servers are up and running and again.

August 2: The Knight Online Expansion Launch was delayed due to "overwhelming demands".

The reason for the delay is a clear indication of how popular the game is, but it seems that fans of the medieval fantasy MMO would have to wait a little bit longer to enjoy the new features of the KOL expansion pack. You could be sure though, that once we get our hands on more KOL news, we'll let you know.

"The new Fire Drake, Felankor, has come to reign over the lands of Adonis and resides at the bottom of the Hell Abyss. He waits for those brave and strong enough to seek him. It will not be an easy task; however, for players must gain a Dragon’s Pearl from an Isiloon’s Servant before given a chance to be in the Dragon’s presence. If the invincible Felankor is slain, the coveted Felankor’s Ring will bestow upon the worthy."

Judging from the screenshot, I'd say old Felankor means business. In any event, K2 Online has released its latest expansion for Knight Online, called Reign of The Fire Drake. This MMORPG is set in a medieval fantasy world, and is free to download and play at the basic level (premium subscription packages are available for $8.95 - $24.95 per month, and allows for a  "more enhanced experience"). In the Fire Drake expansion, players will be able to explore new territories, including one with the intriguing name of "Land of 7 Sins" (I can't wait to find out what those are). There will also be 15 new monsters to battle, and PvP goes up a notch as the level cap is raised to 80. This expansion also features an improved GUI and the ability to send e-mails to fellow players - even when they're not online.

K2 Network is committed to constantly upgrading the enjoyment of all of our Free2Play titles to provide superior game experience and to maintain the level of user satisfaction. Thanks to the loyalty of our KOL players and the curiosity of those new to the game, we are pleased to enhance and extend the KOL experience with this huge expansion,” says K2 Network CEO Joshua Hong.

The current release of Fire Drake is a test version for  players who have joined before 8 July. Newer players who signed up after that date will have to wait until August for the full version, which they'll be able to download from the Knight Online website.
