Hurray for having a conscience! In the interests of serving the public, NCSoft recently announced they would be doing their best to promote safety and security while playing online games by creating a public service campaign to inform people of the potential dangers that can come from being on the net.Called PlaySmart, the public service program will currently be in the form of cards placed in all the boxes of new software they ship out in addition to having it on their website. They will also use existing guidelines put forth by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) as well as consult with experts to update these guidelines yearly. For gamers like us, who fear getting hacked and those gaming families who play online with their kids or siblings, it's probably something we already have a good idea about. It's nice to know that they're taking positive steps to making the gaming world a safer place, and who are listening to what concerned citizens (and sue-happy lawyers) have to say regarding violence and other aspects of gaming culture today. For those folks who use their computers to babysit their kids, it would be a good idea if someone made them read the card, as they might not even care about the box to begin with. It's only too bad they don't have some sort of video campaign for it. That would probably get a ton of hits on the YouTube. |

NCSoft seems to be rolling along with more MMO news. Since the launch of Auto Assault, they have just opened up the registration for their upcoming title, Dungeon Runners. The game is a mission-based game that focuses on fast paced action. Whether you have 15 minutes or 1 hour, you should be able to find a dungeon and plow your way through it. The beta begins May 1st so be sure to sign up now before the website gets bogged down. The game allows you go alone or in teams to conquer your dungeon. From the looks of it, Dungeon Runners could offer something different than the boring hack and slash game, grinding levels, crashing funerals, and all that jazz. Sign up now and be a part of the beta. |
