It looks like the videogame industry has a new defender in its midst, except he's not exactly the type of person you'd expect to be promoting the videogame industry. How come? Well, he's the so-called Legend Killer of wrestling, and he wants to see even more violence in games.

That's right: the WWE's Randy Orton took a stand for more violence in videogames, arguing that videogames were the least of parents' worries. Said Orton at a recent London promotion for THQ's WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, DS), "Violence sells. I want to see more violence in games - the more blood the better."

Orton cited the movie Goodfellas as proof that movie violence, by comparison, could be more shocking than the violence found in a videogame. "The violence [in Goodfellas] is against human beings. There's rape in movies - you see all kinds of f***ed up s*** on film," noted the WWE superstar.

While his enthusiasm for the videogame industry is nice, we doubt that Orton sees videogames as an artform. If videogames are to become an emerging medium, however, we suppose you'd have to accept both the highbrow forms of artistry and storytelling in videogaming and the occasional bouts of virtual recreational violence.
