Square Enix working on a new MMO

In a previous article we posted before, we mentioned that Taku Murata, head of research and development of Square Enix, will be be a speaker at the GDC 2008. He's going to talk about the details regarding the technology behind Final Fantasy.

We decided to snoop around for more information regarding his presentation. Boy oh boy, we got some juicy information. We found a particular line that got us all excited. it went, "The new game engine will be used for Final Fantasy XIII, a new MMORPG under development, and other titles in the future."

It says there that the company is currently developing a new MMORPG. Aside from the success that their first MMO, Final Fantasy XI (Xbox 360, PC), has achieved, it seems that they want to do more in the MMO scene.

Could this be another Final Fantasy MMO? Who knows. So far, this is the latest info we were able to grab on to. Don't worry, we'll be doing our best in bringing you guys with more updates on this matter.

First of all, FFXI was on PS2 before it was on PC and it was on PC long before it was on Xbox 360.. how did the article fail to mention its existence on PS2 at all?

Anyway.. its about time they get around to announcing this cause FFXI is friggin' tired.. the graphics have aged well but the game engine has not. The servers are slow as the second coming of Christ and the frame rate is trash even on an up-to-date gaming rig.

My guess is their next MMO will carry an FFXIII moniker. It may very well be Haeresis XIII.

I thought the folks at SE were resorting to UE3 for their games after FFXIII but I guess not.

 » Well...

I will assume that Square Enix will use the White Engine for its PS3 games and probably use the Unreal Engine for its 360 games.
