Today's rumors often become tommorow's reality; or not. Anyway, GameInformer Magazine shares juicy bits of unconfirmed (as of now) news:

  • A new Halo game is in the making and will be titled Forerunner.
  • "Project Orion" is a team exploring the possibility of a Halo MMO game. The game, is still in the "planning stages" but has received the green light.
  • Microsoft is trying to secure the next version of GTA for the Xbox 360.
  • Final Fantasy VII for PS3 is in production and will use the FFXII real time battle system
Can someone from the Psychic Friends Network please confirm?

 » FINAL FANTASY VII!!!!!

I really hope this turns out to be true! If it is I will be getting a PS3 solely for one game and one game only. Anything after that would be a bonus.

I was going to get a PS3 on launch day anyway just because I can but now I can't wait even though FFVII if truely coming out most likely won't be a launch title.

 » Hmm

I still don't think Square-Enix will bother re-releasing FFVII on PS3. Instead I think they'll concentrate on FFXIII and so on. Doesn't mean I don't want them to though. FFVII with PS3 graphics with real-time battle system *drools*. lol. That and FFXIII would make me buy the PS3.

Forerunner was an april fools thing. Bungie wouldnt be that stupid.

Microsoft securing Grand Theft Auto? I hope so. Seeing the PS3 fail would make me incredibly happy.

And FFVII was overrated and wasnt even that great. FFVI is the best

"Seeing the PS3 fail would make me incredibly happy."

Fanboy banter at it highest. Microsoft may well secure GTA for the 360 but there is no way that GTA will be exclusive to the 360. R* would lose so much money if they did that. It might be exclusive for a while like they were on PS2. But it would be idiotic to make it a permanent exclusive.

There are rumors that in the wake of the new MS SE partnership that ff7 will be coming to 360 and ps3, so don't hold your breath on a ps3 only version

 » R*

Rockstar is almost bankrupt, so MS could simply buy them and then make it exclusive, its not far fetched.

 » The foundations of Sony

Look there are three franchises that are key to keeping Sony's PS3 afloat.

-GTA
-FF
-Metal Gear Solid

In particular, the promise of a FFVII remake would garner the PS3 massive returns.

MS doesn't have to gain exclusive rights to these titles though. Break them into multiformat and Sony would lose any incentive for purchasing their console with its high price and highly priced Blu-Ray games.

Long term, it would actually be extremely worthwhile for MS to buy exclusive rights at a price that would never see a return from the game alone. Such a move would however see a mass migration of the Sony fanbase to the 360 and thus other game revenues would pay for such a deal.

Long-term this is the essential cut-throat tactic needed to break Sony's tight-grip on the industry's throat. MS could easily afford to make such a move however SOny couldn't afford to make a counter move.

 » They're just rumours

I love how everyone reads these things, reads over and over that they're rumours, but still continue to go on about how awesome it is...

6. » i guess ps3 will be better
Sony ruled rulez and will rule. Final fantasy VII coming to PS3 !! :D

^- That one especially just makes me cringe with the thought that people can't read and don't understand what a rumour is. That's just pure and blatant fanboyism. And no, don't go ahead and say I'm an XBOX fanboy or whatever the hell people say these days. I'm definitely all for Sony.

The idea of a Final Fantasy VII remake has been in talks for a long time. But it was just a side project that Square was working on a while back for the PS2, and then they put it on the back burner. It's been quite a while since I read that article, so I wouldn't be able to dig that up anytime soon.

However, a remake of Final Fantasy VII would be an incredible asset to the PlayStation 3, you just can't expect it. If they do release it, it won't be for a while. Personally, as much as I loved Final Fantasy VII, I would rather have a new entry into the series.

 » no gta exclusive... please

Ahhh god I hope Microsoft and all the money they throw around doesn't grab up the rights to GTA... *tear, that would be horrible. It deserves to be enjoyed by everyone, NOT just on group of people who have microsoft products.

by Anonymous Coward (Unregistered) - 2006-04-10
 » lol

a FFVII remake would most definately not be a PS3 exclusive, it would probably be on both the 360 and the PS3 mainly because SE is now a multiconsole company. and besides, what would be the point of remaking a game for a console that already can play the game (FFVII, you can still play it on your PS3) they would bring the game to a whole new audience and expand their profits for a very low overhead (how do you think MS got them to make FFXI for the PC? because it dident cost too much and SE wanted to test the technology to do it)

GTA definately wont be a 360 exclusive, i know its going to be released on the 360 thats without a doubt, but it wont be an exclusive unless microsoft buys them out, which may not be too far fetched. but so far i believe that with all the lawsuits, microsoft would definately think twice before buying rockstar as it could cost them a LOT of money.

Halo MMO is just a wish that some gamers had. it MAY see the light of day, but it wont be made by bungiee, and if i know anything, if its Halo and not made by Bungiee then it sucks (Gearbox made Halo PC and they F**Ked that up)

 » RE: lol

SE multiplatform ya... but FF has still yet to jump to other consoles besides Playstation.... and as for FFXI, they weren't interested in trying diff tech! they did it solely to expand the world thus getting more people PAYING to play which equals more money for Square. Same witht he 360 version of FFXI, it means more money for square every month! Square is still looking into whether they will release FF on the 360 along side the PS3... but havn't come up with an answer yet. You say that GTA can't be bought out, its too far fetched... don't under estimate the greedy mr gates and his company... they'll buy what ever is in their interest to make more money. I never thought Peter Molyneux and his company would succumb to Microsoft and a buy out... but he did...

 » 1 point though

if square where gonna make a ff7 remake. Who would offer them more money for it? MS or Sony? Who has bucket loads of it to spare and whos losing money back the bucket load.

   by Thorlord - 2006-04-10
 » Hush404

i ment that they might not buy it out because of the lawsuits, microsoft would either have to take them, or make GTA friendlier. im all for a Porn-Free-GTA as i frankly dont need games to get off.

im not saying its not possible, im saying that its more than just buying them out, they are the foucs on a bunch of lawsuits and usually companies like that tend to not get bought out unless the buying company intends to take care of the lawsuits.

and frankly i see buying out GTA to be a sad thing, im happy that it will be released for the 360 at the same time, i also think that a PS3 version would be fine for those fans of the game. but a 360 only version would kinda give MS the upperhand, and even though im a HARDCORE xbox fan, i dont want to see the xbox as the #1 console.

 » interview?

a while back i saw an 'interview' with some square-enix chap who was somehow very important to the ff7 team or seomthing (he was in the position to know one way or the other) and he said something like 'i'd like to remake ff7 for ps3 as there's plenty of fans out there who'd be happy to buy it, but i'm quite busy, maybe i'll do it in the future.'

i think he was working on kh2 or something... anyway, although it may not sound very reliable as i can't remember anything about hte circumstances of the interview. but i remember thinking it looked quite believable.

anyway the other rumours don't mean jack to me, so if they come true i won't lose any sleep.

 » Fanboys and noobs

To all fanboys and noobs final fantasy never has been or probably will be multi platform only ff game that was multi platform was ff11 and that was only on 360 cos it has a higher internet user rate. Also sony owns a bit in SE and will not let it go multiplatform. Also about rockstar being sold to ms. First of all rockstar is loaded it is owned by take two and i doubt they would sell itbecause it makes most their of money. Sam houser ceo of rockstar worked for sony for years and wont turn their back on them.

 » FFVII

ok there is no confirmationas such about FFVII and god knows where you heard that crap about real time battles if they did that they would ruin it as FFVII is perfect the way it is. While FFVII for ps1 is still selling(which it is and even more so with release fo the movie) they aint gonna re-make it. If it gets re-made it will do so in about 2-3 years at least and take about the same to make knowing square-enix as they like everything to be near perfect b4 launch

 » MS Buyout Plans

Its basic economics when u get down to it. MS will without a doubt buyout Rockstar within the next 5 years....its pointless to argue that; Rockstar is going bankrupt, Sony doesn't have enough money to pay for the buyout....so that leaves MS! They have billions of dollars to invest in a purchase like that. Next, MS will eventually buyout exclusive FF rights for a period of 7 years within the next two years...when ur in the industry u know this like the back of ur hand.....MS cannot pass up such a crushing blow to Sony, and SE cant pass up such a revenue maker....they will gain money from the deal, have PC games as well, and if Sony decides to fight back they will up the anty and offer more for a later deal...SE would win out of any situation. Pit stop....if ur thinking that MS will be sued for monopolising the game market....no ur far far sooooooo wrong...for that to happen MS has have to at least OWN 35 % of all game companies.....OWN is the key word. A SE FF exclusive deal is just a deal not ownership. Moving on, im sorry but it is inevitable that the MG series will come to an end within the next 9 years, even if Sony wins the next gen battle (which is extremely unlikely) they lose thier most profitable franchise. Oh and an addition to that....MS is currently in talks with Konami for a buyout of thier company. Soon after MS will pick up Capcom under an affiliate corp to avoid monopolizing charges, then Capcom will subsequentially gain Bandai/Koei. This will all happen within the next 12 - 17 years...it is inevitable. Sony will fall and MS will rise, Sony cannot compete with such a financhial and political-tiein powerhouse. Lastly.....I AM MOST DEFINITELY NOT A MS FANBOY....THEY CAN BURN IN HELL AND SUFFER DAMNATION TO THE EXTENT THAT JUDAS WOULD FEEL SORRY FOR THEM!!!! I am a Nintendo-kid to the core....oh and a surprise note......if Nintendo fails with the revolution, u better get use the feeling of associating Nintendo with MS...Nintendo hates Sony, they will join MS....what a sad sad, terrible day that would be....

And to the person who posted at 7:19pm where in the hell did u get the idea that microsoft are buying Konami and Capcom please tell me your sources because right now i think this is all bs.

hahaha.... this guys a comedian..... foreign countries cannot buy japanese companies. Its against thier law. hehehehe. If its possible MS should have bought square or capcom or konami long ago.... he is so brilliant!!!!!

 » babybalong is wrong

American companies can and do own Japanese companies i.e.,
Madza is owned and controlled by Ford. The Mazda 3 is the platform for the next focus and the current small volvo. The Tribute is a rebadged Ford escape. That is not a relationship, it is a controlling stake.

 » "MS Buyout Plans" Poster

First, I am the guy who posted originally about MS buyout plans. Babybalong was right about one thing.....I am a comedian, all that I have said was about 70% bs! However, he was wrong about foreign countries can and do own other foreign countries, but they dont actually "own" they are considered affiliates untill the complete buyout is approved by the shareholders. The parts that were not bs in my rant was that Rockstar is GOING bankrupt not is....but GOING bankrupt, also the MS exlusivity rights for FF is true (my sources is that I work for an affiliate of SE, and we need to hold a board meeting to ascertain the benefits and downfalls of such a deal before we accept or decline), and that Capcom will buyout Bandai/Koei and take them as partner much like how Enix and Squaresoft joined or how Bandai and Koei joined, and lastly that I am a nintendo fanboy! Oh yes, one more thing, when I state this, this is all in very early talks and business-cutthroat operations not full-out press releases, this is economic warfare tactics that are being discussed. That is why I said ealier that MS would buy Konami and Capcom...its because if they do...they get a whole *****load of money from it duhhhh!

I know that MS has more economic power that Sony, I also know that the actual X-Box is far more better than Ps2(hardware), but I also know that PS2 kicked X-Box ass thanks to millions and millions of fan-boys, also that uncle Bill spended millions of dollars in publicity and nothing...
And I also know that you are a ****** that doesnt has anything to do so you start saying things like: Ohhh!! MS owns exclusivity rights over FF!!!
Meh!!! just shut the **** up and something with your life!!!!

"my sources is that I work for an affiliate of SE", ahahahahahah!!!!!!! Let us laugh!!!
