Pokemon Squirtle - Image 1

Pokemon + MMO = ?

You can try to solve the equation, but in case you don't know what the answer is (most of us don't, either), there is a chance that we may find out, soon. Game developer Nnooo, of WiiWare's Pop fame, is pitching that very idea to Nintendo. There's still no word if there will be a future to such an idea, but we certainly do hope that it pulls through.

Imagine being able to roam around, collecting Pokemon and exchanging creatures with in-game friends, or challenge Gym Leaders in neighboring towns. If you think about it, Pokemon is one of the IPs that can easily translate into an MMO title.

Will we see a Pokemon MMO then, in the near future? We don't know, but you can bet that we'll be keeping tabs on this particular tidbit. Check this space for more updates!

» Would be like a drug.....

I think that a pokemon MMO would be worse than World of Warcraft or any of other MMOs out there.
(Worse in the sense of time and money it would steal away from its players.)
I mean, come on. Look at how much each new iteration of the handheld version sells. Add that to a live updatable game, where the premise is to wander around and capture things randomly, that's just too much.
It's like the new Pokemon games for DS, but the online play is far better, which makes it more addictive.
Good way to make money, but bad for families.

Legendarys.

They're supposed to be rare, and an MMO is supposed to be one world. They can't have everyone walking around with one of the things really.

Here's a thought. A Pokemon MMO title does sound promising. But if ever something remotely Pokemon would jump into the MMORPG realm, it might be pretty cool if they follow through from the Mystery Dungeon set up - with players actually assuming the Pokemon and not the trainers.

Of course, the usual Pokemon set up (playing the trainer and collecting pokemon) would work, but maybe breaking tradition and going for the Mystery Dungeon scenario might also be worth the trip.

*shrug* just a thought.

(I GET DIBS ON BEING A SNORLAX! BLISS! ^_^ LOL)
