Gaming PC - Image 1Top industry players such as Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) are going to establish the "PC Gaming Alliance," reports veteran video games journalist Dean Takahashi. According to Takahashi, the announcement of such alliance will happen at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco next week.

The group's objective is to keep PC gaming competitive amidst the emergence of the Nintendo Wii's pick up and play games and the Microsoft Xbox 360's robust online features, said Takahashi.

The PC Gaming Alliance consortium is believed to address "problems that make the PC a less desirable platform than consoles for playing games." Among these is the constant worry of gamers about actually being able to play certain titles on their machines. Another goal is to attract game developers to make games on the platform.

Dean Takahashi previously revealed exciting details about the next Xbox 360 motherboard codenamed "Jasper." While we are yet to find the supposedly cheaper consoles equipped with that in the market, GDC will tell if he's on the money this time.

 » Wow.

This was a really smart move for all the companies. Console gaming is getting bigger and bigger each year, and the PC gaming scene needs to step it up.

 » i dont know

i mean im sure its a great idea. but wouldnt it slowly kill competition between them making there future products less and less advanced. of course i could be wrong and it could do the complete opposite.

and dont get me wrong. i LOOOOVE building computers and i love my computer but the reason consoles are dominating the gaming industry as of now is because they are 10x more expensive. you could spend 2000 on a computer only for it to be outdated in 6 months and completely obsolete in 2 years. to me 2 grand every 2 years is alot more expensive than 600 for 10. (ps3). plus windows messes up WAYYY to much to have serious gaming fun on it. linux and mac dont, but the gaming platform for those os's are far smaller.

but i would love to see this plan work. it would put my money to good use.

I would rather upgrade components every two years than buy a new console. I'm not impressed with any of the newer consoles. If something goes wrong with my rig, then I can fix it. But I don't have to spend $2000.00 for an upgrade every two years. And anyone that is spending that kinda cash, is only trying to keep up with his/her friends or other competition just by saying he/she has the latest in hardware....oooooo......aaaaaah, BS!!!

I have had no problems with lag or anything with any of the latest games. And my system is about 3 years old....granted I did add a new video card, but that was due to NOT having one.

But anyway....the pc gaming experience is not going away, with games such as GuildWars, Lineage II, and Bioshock, there is a great many who will choose to keep it alive and well. Some pc games are just not worth buying...but there are some that are just fantastic, and much better than any console could produce.

Goodbye Sony, adios Nintendo, sianara XBox
