We came across something that might interest Second Life and Final Fantasy fans everywhere. A group pf people actually threw caution to the wind and ignored the possibility of lawsuits to create a nice replica of Midgar within the popular MMORPG. We've got a bunch of screens, and although it isn't quite Final Fantasy XI, it's pretty good for an "unlicensed" effort. Have a look:

The word is that Square Enix gave its blessing to the creators of the FFVII nostalgia treat in SL. There have been no confirmations whatsoever about the degree of truth behind this. The only thing we can guarantee you is that this map is fun.

You start in the city as either a warrior, a gunner or a caster. You can acquire materia to gain special abilities and you can join either the SOLDIER or AVALANCHE factions in a struggle to save the planet from getting itself sucked dry of Mako energy.

Here's hoping that Midgar stays around long enough in SL. Fans of the Final Fantasy classic installment are having a great time and the people who made this possible are really promoting Square's products like there's no tomorrow. Follow the read URL and see more details on this curious project.
