It's time once more for yours truly to play tour guide in the digital realms of Middle-earth, and in this update we'll be heading into somewhat creepier territory. Creepy being, an abandoned ruin with a swamp of blood creepy. Yes, it's Garth Agarwen, the bleeding ruin of an ancient Rhudaurian fortress in Codemasters' The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Angmar.
Right off the bat, we can tell it's not a very friendly place - the river of blood is a dead giveaway. Of course, it wasn't like this at first - the Rhudaurian fortress was once a chief bastion of the Hillmen before it become haunted. Lore has it that the streams and rivers that flowed through Garth Agarwen was the dwelling place of a young and beautiful River Maiden.
The wars that broke out spilled blood onto her streams and rivers, however, causing the land to turn upon itself, corrupting it into something dark and twisted. This fate also befell the River Maiden, and now she leads an accursed existence in Garth Agarwen, waiting for the next foolish adventurer to drown in her bloody, murky embrace.
For the stalwart many who want to take a stab at conquering Garth Agarwen and its dark mistress, take heed - there is strength in numbers. Those foolish enough to brave the River Maiden's wrath on his own will only add to the swamp's murky depths.
