Speaking at the recent William Blair & Company Annual Growth Stock Conference, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello commented on two of his company's titles: Boom Blox, and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. With regards to Warhammer, Riccitiello stated that he believes it would be a strong entry into MMO gaming. The exec did note that they didn't expect it to rival Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft, although they have high hopes for Warhammer's financial returns. On the console side of the discussion, Riccitiello also commented on Boom Blox's sales, which amounted to just 60,000 sales as of May (according to NPD reports):
Right now, Boom Blox has met our expectations internally based on the model that was put forward by Kathy and her team. It has continued to sell well - it did break into the Top Ten for the Wii. Riccitiello noted EA's relative lack of experience in handling casual games, which may partly explain Boom Blox's lackluster performance on the shelves. "To be honest, I think everything in casual makes us all challenge our assumptions," he said. Speaking to investors at the conference, Riccitiello also assured investors of the potential profitability of BioWare's upcoming new RPG for the PC platform, Dragon Age: Dragon Age speaks to a very, very, very important audience. This is a core RPG created for fans that love BioWare, and it's about dragons. This is not risky. This is an audience that we know, that we can deliver for and generate very substantial profits by doing so. |
