Despite LucasArts' earlier announcement not to leave SOE with the Star Wars license, word is that BioWare could be soon working on another Star Wars MMO title - possibly a SW: Galaxies sequel.

The coincidences are pretty suspicious, that's for sure: BioWare opened a new studio in Austin a while ago, with several SOE employees getting jobs there. The only information the studio itself gave out was their plan for a Sci-Fi MMORPG.

Then the real rumors started, claiming LucasArts was in talks with other developers to take over the SW online license, one possible candidate being BioWare.

At least some time needs to pass first, because LucasArts certainly won't negate their recent announcement anytime soon. Not that the Galaxies folk would really care if SOE were to announce the immediate shutdown of the struggling Star Wars MMORPG.

If I could have only one video game, a really good Star Wars MMORPG would be it.

Even though I used to love Galaxies, after SOE's incomprehensible mismanagement of this title, it is (like Fredo) dead to me.

I don't know if BioWare is up to the job but at least they aren't Sony, so thats got to count for something.

lol, it seems no matter how hard Smed and Torres hammer down on it, this rumour just keeps growing and growing.

It's getting to the stage of self-fulfilling prophecy as Bioware, if they weren't already looking at a SW product, must surely now be thinking "Wow... they REALLY want this..."

SW Galaxies just sucked! I've played a few different MMORPG's and it's definately a challange to keep things interesting, but not overwhelming. I think the key is to have equally satisfieing solo content as well as group play. But anything with the star wars name has a lot to live up to.

I hope they realize that KOTOR was good, but they have a long way to go.

I'd give anything for the wiping of SWG off the map and the creation of a new, completely re-designed, NOT-COOKIE-CUTTER Star Wars MMO.

SWG was okay for awhile, I was one of the first bounty hunters on my server (Bloodfin), but after 7 months, it was unbearable.

I still love Star Wars more than anything, and I think perhaps a Post-Return of the Jedi setting MMO would be best fit.

New Jedi Order in the making... new sith orders... etc...

I played SWG up through the jump to light speed expansion, I had hi hopes for the game but the constant revisions and the utter gutting of the game with the "combat" mod ruined it. I am a big fan of Bioware and if they were to do a Star Wars MMO then i have faith they would do it right... and keep it right.

» I hope this does happen and it doesn't get messed up

I played SWG for 19 months on the Chilastra server. I loved the game, I tried it all and even went as far as Jedi. I went through changes CU etc and I beared with it for my love of Star Wars kept me going then the NGE came.

I couldn't stick with it anymore, I just couldn't stand the changes to the game due to a big stupid coporate move.

So I am in WOW now and I am really enjoying it, I have been there for about 4 months now and there is one huge thing that I noticed straight away with Blizzard and SOE, good system, management and advancement. There is a new expansion coming out for WOW towards the end of the year, they have been working on it for a long time, why? Becuase they rush nothing, it will not be released until it is perfect and that's the way Bioware should go about it if they are doing a new SWG2, take a good example form Blizzard don't rush it and don't release it until it is perfect.

If Bioware do release a new version of SWG in any time preiod of the Star Wars universe and do it right, I will be rushing back with open arms to be a loyal player.
